Chapel Hill - Carrboro City Schools is Hiring a Math Teacher (2024-25 School Year) Near Chapel Hill, NC

TITLE:  Math Teacher (2024-25 School Year) 
QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed or be eligible to be licensed in 6-8 math Candidates must be designated as HIGHLY QUALIFIED in middle school math.
Previous experience in middle school math preferred.
SALARY: NC Teacher Salary 18% supplement (supplement increases with years of experience)

SUPERVISES:  May coordinate and direct activities of paraprofessionals, volunteers and/or clerical assistants.
 
REPORTS TO:  The school principal or his/her designee
 
JOB GOAL: To provide each student with the help, counsel, and learning experience he needs to make progress toward educational goals established. To create a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to live a rewarding life in an ever-changing world. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  2. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  3. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  4. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students.
  5. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.
  6. Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  7. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student’s progress and interprets the school program.
  8. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  9. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and through self-selected professional growth activities. 
  10. Participates in curriculum development programs as required. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. 
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
  12. Instructs pupils in a classroom, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.

  14. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  15. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

  17.  Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicates these objectives to pupils. 
  18. Evaluates pupil performance and growth using a variety of formative and summative evaluation tools
  19. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student’s progress and interprets the school program.
  20. Collaborates with colleagues to promote an optimal learning environment for pupils.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Ten-month year. Salary in accordance with certification and placement on the adopted schedule.
 
EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education policy on the evaluation of teachers.
