QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in educational related area, Master’s in School Administration required.
Prior successful work experience/expertise in teaching, mentoring or educational related field
Prior successful work experience in teaching social skills, restorative practices, and Positive
Behavior Interventions and Support
REPORTS TO: School Principal
JOB GOAL:
The Dean of Students will support students, families and staff in navigating evidenced based practices,
strategies, and tools necessary to effect positive behavior change in students; this position will provide
supportive interventions to students and the school. To explicitly teach and support students with positive
behavioral supports and interventions appropriate based on students' needs, classroom environments, and
school climate. The dean would primarily be charged with building rapport with students and staff in
order to assist with proactive and preventative measures to discipline. The primary role of this position is
to oversee and support the efforts of fostering a positive, engaging and caring atmosphere, and a healthy
learning community that enable students to flourish.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises students on campus before and after school; monitors students during lunch, recess, passing
periods, and other activities; instructs students in appropriate behavior; disciplines students in accordance
with established guidelines.
Works with the Principal to establish a safe and secure learning environment for students. Develops plans
for emergency situations in collaboration with other administrators, staff, and public safety agencies;;
plans and debriefs emergency drills; updates the school safety plan.
Work collaboratively with school counselors to support student needs, referring potential counseling
issues to the school counselors.
Implement a behavior management program aligned with the Community Code of Character, Conduct,
and Support to include restorative practices and Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS).
Support the day-to-day disciplinary issues, working closely with staff to ensure compliance with school
policies.
Supports the creation of a classroom culture and environment that develops and nurtures the emotional,
and social abilities of students.
Assists students in examining misbehavior and developing strategies to prevent recurrences.
Provides support in the development and implementation of current best practices in equity centered
classroom strategies,restorative practices, PBIS, and SEL.
Serve as an advocate for educational equity for all students and families, with a particular emphasis on
equity in behavior and safety planning and response
Provide de-escalation techniques to students who are upset, distressed, distraught
Be knowledgeable of specific disabilities and individual learning characteristics, including IEPs, 504s,
and PBSPs when implementing evidence-based Crisis Response Activities
Providing staff training on identification of behavior health concerns and appropriate classroom-based
interventions and referral processes.
Advising school improvement teams on strategies to create a culture that accepts behavioral health
awareness for students and staff.
Providing crisis assistance for students and families.
Serving as a liaison to/for community resources; next steps involving short term and/or long term therapy
or intervention; advocacy.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by laws, district policies, and
administrative regulations.
Assists administrators and other staff members in the orderly, expedient and safe transition of students
from one location to another.
Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
1. Has the ability to work and interact with individuals at all levels within the school community.
2. Excellent people skills - demonstrated ability to create functional, working relationships with
school staff, community partners, and parents.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of youth development.
4. Demonstrated ability to work with non–motivated and at-risk students.
5. Has the ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple priorities.
6. Possesses excellent communication skills: oral (including presentations), written, interpersonal
(active listening), negotiating, and influencing.
7. Has the ability to be at work consistently, to be on time, to follow instructions, to respond to
management direction and to solicit feedback to improve performance.
8. Demonstrates proficient experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook),
databases, and student information systems, and email communication systems.
9. Follow through on duties and projects assigned.
