Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity is Hiring a Family Support Specialist Near Colchester, VT

Description

Head Start is a federally-funded, national child and family development program which provides comprehensive services for pregnant women, children from birth to age five, and their families. Services for children promote school readiness, and include early education, health, nutrition, mental health, and services for children with special needs. Services for parents promote family engagement, and include parent leadership and social service supports.

As a Family Support Specialist, you will work in an outcomes-oriented, team environment, and assist families in accessing medical and dental care for their children. You will also provide social service support and home visits for families and help parents address family needs and goals. Motivated Family Support Specialists improve the trajectory of children’s lives, including children’s learning outcomes, living standards, and later academic and professional success. 40 hours/week, approximately 42 weeks/year; 22 hours/week during the summer. Starting wage upon completion of 60-working day period: $20.28-$24.22/hour, depending on qualifications. Health plan and excellent benefits. 

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, family services, counseling or a related field; Family Services Credential within 18 months of hire; knowledge of agencies and services available to address the needs of families in the counties being served; knowledge of early care and education services; a commitment to social justice and to working with families with limited financial resources; excellent verbal and written communication (bilingual abilities a plus!), documentation, and record-keeping skills; valid driver’s license, clean driving record and access to reliable transportation; physical ability to carry out required tasks, and a can-do, extra-mile attitude.
