Training and Outreach Coordinator – Firearms Safe Storage Strategies Grant
Gun violence is a recognized national public health crisis and despite Illinois’ strong gun safety laws, there is still much to be done to prevent unintentional injuries, violence, and suicide. Firearms are the leading cause of death for American children and teens, and gun suicides are at an all-time high. Champaign County is no exception. The County is home to many of the groups most at risk for death or injury by firearm. Therefore, Champaign County has applied for a Firearms Safe Storage Strategies grant through the State of Illinois. Execution of the grant will require a temporary Training and Outreach Coordinator who will be dedicated to implementing our grant program activities throughout the year. The program activities and goals are already developed, the Coordinator is responsible for implementation, oversight, and documentation.

This is a temporary position, expected to last from 6/1/2024-6/30/2025. The County will provide training and resources. The salary is $20-$25/hour for a total of approx. 900 hours. Health insurance is provided and mileage for travel is reimbursed.
