At CPCCo, located in Richland, Washington, we are working to provide a sustainable future for the historic Hanford area through the protection of the Columbia River and the remediation of the Central Plateau. To achieve our mission, we need exceptionally talented, innovative, and driven people to help us reduce risks on the Hanford Site by removing some of the most hazardous waste streams and facilities in the Department of Energy (DOE) complex. Internships are a great way to immerse yourself in CPCCo's culture to see if we're a good fit for you and your career goals. The work will be technical in nature and related to the degree the intern is pursuing. The intern should be able to walk away from the internship with valuable learning that applies to their chosen degree.
Our Regulatory Strategy & Integration team is seeking two dynamic Geologists/Environmental Scientists with a desire to work hard, learn new subjects, and be a contributing member of a great team. Our mission is progressing the environmental restoration program through gaining regulator concurrence on Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Atomic Energy Act (AEA) decision documents, evaluating soil and groundwater environmental clean-up, and discovering ways to optimize and improve the environmental restoration.
This internship is in Richland, WA; the work site may be within the city limits or outside on the Hanford site.
Responsibilities during this internship include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Researching use of an Electromagnetic Borehole Flowmeter (EBF), develop an explanatory presentation and draft procedure for use.
* Researching and begin creation of a lithofacies model for the High Conductivity Zone evaluating candidate wells both inside and outside the paleochannel.
* Developing a Geographic Information System (GIS) data index and desktop instruction for accessing the data.
* Revising and updating the Automated Water Level Network (AWLN) Functional Requirements Document
* Supporting review of the Atomic Energy Act (AEA) groundwater radiological dose calculation.
* Researching regulatory decision documents and develop an Annual Reporting Requirements matrix table or guidance document.
* Developing internal guidance on best drilling and sampling methods for different constituents, parameters, and data.
* Researching the topic of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) and create an explanatory presentation or technical memo.
* Organizing an RS&I scientific poster session.
Basic Qualifications
* At least 18 years of age.
* An active full-time student during the two semesters/quarters immediately preceding the assignment.
* Maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) during their college enrollment.
* Able to work full-time (40 hours) during the internship experience. The internship typically provides up to 12-weeks of business experience during the summer break.
* Actively enrolled in a full-time degree program.
* Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, or similar discipline.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly rate of $18.20 plus an additional $4.41 health & welfare adder in accordance with the Service Contract Act.
