PT Federal Work Study - Library Student Assistant (Library Services)

General Function and Job Duties:

Performs a variety of standard clerical and custodial tasks which may include assisting students at public service desks, assisting students in the Makerspace, sorting and shelving books in LC call number, straightening book shelves, cleaning equipment,
pulling materials from reports, sorting mail, and stamping materials in support of library’s daily operations and collection maintenance.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist full-time staff at public service desks.
2. Check out library materials.
3. Check in and re-sensitize books for shelving.
4. Monitor book shelves and other resource collection areas for neatness and order; may reshelf or reorganize resources in proper location.
5. Stamp and sort materials for processing or shelving.
6. Assist students in the library’s makerspace
7. Clean equipment such as computer keyboards and monitors; charge batteries and check all pieces of audiovisual equipment.
8. Assist students booking and checking into study rooms
9. Assist students with computer sign-in procedures and provide assistance with Google suite and Microsoft Office programs.
10. Assist library staff with other duties as assigned.

  • The incumbent in this job is expected to assist the College in achieving its vision and mission. Customer focus, college service, and a willingness to assist as needed are expectations for all employees.

2. Satisfactory Academic Standing
3. Ability to interact tactfully and pleasantly with students, staff, and faculty.
4. Posses telephone and customer service skills
5. Exhibits reliability and good work habits.
6. Ability to follow oral and written instructions
7. Posses reading, writing and communication skills
8. Employee must be computer literate and possess knowledge of Google suite, Microsoft Office programs, Windows, and Internet.
9. Specific library training provided.

Conditions of Employment:

Salary for this position is $15.00hr. Contract type is Classified. Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include off-shift hours, evening and weekend assignments may be required of any position. All positions are subject to budget approval.
