CENTRAL PARK is Hiring a TITLE 1A: FAMILY INTERVENTION SPECIALIST (#316) Near MIDLAND, MI

Qualifications: The Family Intervention Specialist will possess either a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Family Services, Criminal Justice, Counseling or related field. Experience counseling with at-risk children and families is required. Additional experience demonstrating the ability to execute the following competencies are necessary:

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Ability to work in cooperation with members of the Student Support Teams to identify and develop effective intervention strategies 
  • Knowledge of data-driven decision making in relation to student behaviors and socio-emotional challenges the affect academic achievement 
  • Ability to develop and monitor achievement as affected by positive behavior support plans 
  • Knowledge of researched-based clinical interventions 
  • Ability to work with teachers, administrators, parents, students, and representatives from community agencies to access appropriate services on behalf of children. 
  • Adherence to all guidelines as it relates to student and parent confidentiality 
  • Ability to work with student and families to improve educational outcomes 
  • Willingness to provide trainings, outreach, and family contacts beyond the school day

This position is supplemental and is in addition to the District Assigned Social Worker from Special Services. The Family Intervention Specialist will work in three capacities: with students, with teachers, and with families to support academic achievement.

The Family Intervention Specialist will work with families to support the academic achievement of students who are at-risk of failing by providing intervention and study skill instruction to parents, setting up home-work expectations, parent workshops and follow through.

The Family Intervention Specialist will provide classroom lessons in social behaviors, listening skills, will work one-on-one with student, in small groups, and whole class in order to eliminate barriers that interfere with learning.

The Family Intervention Specialist will be responsible for providing support to students during instructional time in order to close the achievement gap to those students at-risk of failing in the four core areas of instruction. Additionally the Family Intervention Specialist will teach lessons in impulse control that prevent students from learning. Students eligible for this service will be identified by NWEA scores and a teacher referral system communicated during our Community School Model and School Success Team meetings. 

Success will be determined by an increase in student achievement as measured by NWEA, District assessments, report cards, unit tests, teacher observation, and homework completion and correctness.
