Central Ohio Technical College is Hiring an Instructor - Communications Near Newark, OH

  • Master’s degree in Speech Communication, English, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated expertise in speech communication, oral presentation skills, and effective communication strategies.
  • 3-5 years’ experience teaching at the college level.
  • Functional competency with the Canvas LMS, and other related educational technology tools.
  • Strong commitment to student-centered learning, academic excellence, and student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Communication, Rhetoric, English, or a related field.
  • 5 years of teaching experience at the college level, with a demonstrated record of effective instruction and student engagement.
  • Record of scholarly activity, including research publications, conference presentations, and/or grant funding.
  • Experience serving as lead faculty or department chair in speech communication or English departments.
  • Dedication to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and campus community.
Summary of Duties:
Position Overview:
The full-time Speech and Communication Faculty Member at COTC will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in various courses, fostering student success, and contributing to the academic environment of the English and Communication Department and the Division of Arts & Sciences. The ideal candidate will serve as the lead faculty for speech and oral communication courses while also possessing the ability to teach English composition, literature, and/or technical writing courses. The faculty member will collaborate with colleagues, participate in departmental activities, and engage in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching and learning.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as lead faculty for speech and communication courses, providing innovative and effective instruction to enhance students’ communication skills and confidence.
  • Develop and deliver engaging curriculum, assignments, and assessments that align with course objectives and promote student success.
  • Teach English composition, literature, and technical writing courses as needed to support departmental needs and student learning outcomes.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with departmental colleagues to assess student learning, evaluate program effectiveness, and implement continuous improvement strategies.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and professional development activities to support the mission and goals of the Communication and English Department, the division, and the college.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, such as research, publication, and conference presentations, to contribute to the academic discipline and professional growth.
  • Provide academic advising and support services to students, including course selection, degree planning, and career guidance.
  • Stay current with developments in the fields of speech communication, English composition, literature, and technical writing through ongoing professional development and scholarly pursuits.
