Central Mutual Insurance Company is Hiring a Remote Digital Product Owner

Location: Hybrid Work Model - Van Wert or Columbus, Ohio

In this role, you'll become part of the product team focused on our data and analytics transformation. You will work closely with the Data Product team and business stakeholders to understand their future direction and priorities and translate that into your roadmap. You’ll also work closely with other technology teams, like policy administration, claims, billing, and rating, to identify and track dependencies and coordinate data releases with software releases when needed.
Working with your Data Engineering counterparts, you’ll ensure we maximize our investment in product development by clearly articulating requirements, breaking down work, and orchestrating the engineering team's activities.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Delivery Planning
  • Work with stakeholders and Product Management to understand their needs and evaluate value. Factor that analysis into a roadmap for data and create the corresponding initiatives, epics, and stories and epics to be included within each sprint based on priority, effort, capacity, and dependencies.
  • Work with Product Development to break initiatives into epics and stories.
  • Document epics and stories with strong acceptance criteria and validate acceptance criteria are met prior to release.
  • Collaborate with your product team to ID dependencies, sequence work, and track deliverables.
  • Groom the backlog and facilitate t-shirt sizing conversations.
Tracking
  • Facilitate regular standups and track release burndown at the story and epic level. Flag delays, communicate as needed, and adjust timelines if needed. Resolve blockers and issues for the team.
  • Facilitate regular communications with stakeholders and remediate any disconnects. Regularly share status with x-functional teams.
  • If needed, track costs for any third party vendors. Manage relationships, identify potential improvements in vendor systems and request enhancements.
Releasing
  • Co-ordinate releases with relevant internal audit, and security teams to ensure all compliance requirements are met.
  • Assist with rollout enablement, high-level functional end-to-end testing, and user acceptance testing coordination.
Performance Tracking
  • Manage Data Life Cycle; define measurement for success and drive the execution and continuous evaluation of those metrics.
  • Oversee lifecycle of the domain datasets, when to change, revise and retire data and schemas.
  • Track data usage to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Track high-level costs associated with products and report to stakeholders, Product Development, and Product Managers.
Discovery
  • Set and share the product vision.
What You’ll Bring
  • Master’s degree in business management and 2 years direct Product Owner experience
  • Or Bachelor’s degree in business management and 4 years direct Product Owner experience
  • Or 6 years direct Product Owner experience
  • Experience managing data engineering projects using Azure DevOps, and JIRA tools
  • Experience developing agile metrics and instrumentation and project reporting
  • Strong foresight to identify ill-defined requirements, capacity constraints, risks, and dependencies that may require resequencing or rewriting of epics and stories
  • Concise communication skills to ensure Data Engineering team understands requirements and acceptance criteria and to share status and performance updates with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Inquisitive with the ability to find bottlenecks, broken processes, capacity issues, and communication breakdowns and work with others to remediate
  • Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to reflect on past team experiences and identify and execute future improvements
  • Highly organized with the ability to create and track executable plans that maximize Engineering utilization and efficiency while also meeting user and market requirements
  • Outcome oriented with the ability to track and communicate performance
  • Collaborative with strong relationship building skills to coordinate x-functional teams
  • Knowledgeable about different delivery methods and agile principals and methods
