Central Coast YMCA is Hiring a Youth Development Director Near Watsonville, CA

SUMMARY: The Youth Development Director provides direct leadership to the YMCA programs in the areas of Child Care and Camp. The Youth Development Director will manage the accomplishment of goals and objectives for Fiscal Management, Volunteer Development, Human Resources Management, Facility Management, Public Relations and Administration. All functions are performed by Central Coast YMCA policies and bylaws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

I. ADMINISTRATION

· Provides direct leadership to assigned programs/departments, working to provide a safe, caring stimulating environment for participants and staff.

· Ensures that administrative systems are adequate to meet association standards and give proper reporting for effective management of the YMCA.

II. FISCAL MANAGEMENT

· Meets budgeted outcomes on all related budget account lines.

· Maintains inventory of and orders supplies for Child Care and Camp Programs.

III. VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT

· Provides leadership to the identification and involvement of volunteers.

· Serves as staff officer on special event committees.

IV. HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT

· Manages the Human Resources Cycle (Selection, Recruitment, Orientation, Training, Supervision, Annual Review, and Recognition) for all departments under their supervision.

· Conducts regular staff meetings and 1-to-1 supervisory meetings with all staff supervised, setting and monitoring accomplishment of staff performance standards.

· Conducts branch related training for all Child Care and Day Camp staff designed to increase awareness of and compliance with established national YMCA Program Standards.

· Develops and implement a standardized orientation process for all staff in departments under their supervision.

V. MEMBER AND PARTICIPANT SATISFACTION

· Ensures that YMCA members, program participants, and volunteers have a high level of satisfaction with their YMCA programs and services.

· Manages the development, distribution, collection, and analysis of participant evaluations to measure satisfaction in YMCA programs.

· Uses information from program evaluations to improve program effectiveness, involving staff, parents, and participants.

VI. FACILITY MANAGEMENT

· Responsible for operating the facility and assigned sites in a clean, safe manner, working through staff and volunteers.

VII. PUBLIC AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS

· Represents the YMCA in the community, interprets YMCA goals and programs to community leaders, public officials, and the media.

· Manages the development and implementation of marketing and public relations plans for their department programs.

VIII. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

· Participates and gives input to branch strategic (long-range 5 year) and tactical (short-term 1 year) planning efforts.

· Manages the upgrading of existing programs, collaborating with other agencies and organizations as appropriate to bring about maximum YMCA effectiveness in the community.

· Develops, promotes, and conducts events and activities to involve the families of program participants.

IX. GENERAL

· Serves as an active member of the Central Coast YMCA and staff teams. Attends and gives leadership to branch meetings as appropriate.

· Working with the Senior Program Director, develops and follows a plan for professional development.

· Participates in regional and national YMCA activities as appropriate.

· Acts in a safe and acceptable manner, follows established safety procedures, uses appropriate safeguards, and observes common sense rules of safety in all on-the-job activities. Ensures coworkers do the same.

· Conducts self in a manner that reflects credit on the Central Coast YMCA and encourages others to do the same.

· Embraces the asset-building approach to healthy youth development and incorporates asset development into all aspects of their work.

· Establishes and maintains effective channels of communication and a professional relationship with coworkers, management, members, and guests.

· Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in recreation or related field strongly recommended, or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school; related experience and/or training in working with youth programs; or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities.

· Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate.

Language Skills: Must have:

· Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

· Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals using commonly accepted business writing techniques and appropriate grammar.

· Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, coworkers, volunteers, members, donors, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

· Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.

Reasoning Ability:

· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

· Must possess the ability to make sound independent decisions when circumstances warrant.

Other Skills, Requirements, Abilities and Personal Characteristics: must have or be:

· Ability and willingness to work as a team.

· Well organized and possess excellent telephone communication skills.

· Working knowledge of efficient filing systems, office machines, and equipment.

· Extensive experience of advanced features of computer applications, including word processing, relational databases, spreadsheets, graphics, and extensive knowledge of the Internet. Experience in the following computer programs: Word, WordPerfect, Excel, Outlook, and Access.

· Able to set and meet deadlines.

· Enthusiastic, dependable, and a sense of humor.

· Willing to follow directions and take initiative.

· Understanding of the YMCA mission.

· Willingness to demonstrate the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in interactions with staff and volunteers.

· Interest in and ability to interact with children and have a positive impact upon them.

· Even-tempered and able to adjust tasks in accordance with changing priorities.

· Possess current CPR and First Aid Certification.

· Background Clearance.

· Completed pre-employment health screening and TB test.

· A neat, clean appearance. Other than the conservative use of earrings, visible body piercings are unacceptable. Visible pierced tongues are not allowed.

· No visible tattoos.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $52,000.00 - $62,000.00 per year
