Independent Living Services Program Assistant

Center for Living & Working, Inc. (CLW) is located in Worcester, Massachusetts and is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit agency founded in 1975 by a core group of young adults with disabilities. CLW is a consumer-directed, multi-programmed, multifaceted agency, dedicated to the empowerment of all persons with disabilities to live as independently as possible. CLW provides five core services: Advocacy, Skills training, Peer support, Information and Referral and Transitions.

CLW is looking for an Independent Living Services (IL) Program Assistant to join our Independent Living Services Department. The IL Program Assistant is responsible for:

  • Under the general direction of the IL Services Manager, assisting with supervision of all Independent Living programs and staffs.
  • Working primarily with electronic data, spreadsheets, and internal data management systems to maintain and organize data.
  • Generating program reports for the Board of Directors, reports for all MRC, OC, and State IL Contracts, as well as establishing and maintaining written reporting procedures.
  • Participating in the annual 704 data collection and reporting process.
  • Formulating techniques for quality data collection to ensure accuracy and legitimacy of data.
  • Providing regular analysis of information and data to evaluate program performance and to discover ways of enhancement.
  • Acting as the secondary contact for staff regarding program procedures and policies as well as supporting others in the daily use of data systems.
  • Assisting in facilitating IL Service billing to include communicating and working closely with the Fiscal Department. Establishing written billing procedures as defined by applicable contracts.
  • Providing back up to the I&R Specialist, as needed.
  • Assisting with the maintenance, upkeep, and compliance audit of all Independent Living Department consumer electronic and hard copy files and carrying out administrative tasks as required to facilitate an efficient working environment.
  • Assisting with the coordination and support of the daily operations of the department, which shall include providing back up to IL Manager, as needed.
  • Representing CLW at community events and meetings as required, ensuring that the mission and resources reflect changes in community needs.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Frequent communication (orally and/or in writing) with consumers, staff, state agencies, business partners/vendors and other third parties.
  • Conduct individual group presentations.
  • Understand the requirements of all IL programs and to be able to assess, teach, evaluate, educate, direct and refer the consumer/guardian and/or staff regarding the scope of the program(s) as needed.
  • Travel within service area and beyond as needed.
  • Analytical Skills: Must be able to analyze how data is coming in, and how it will need to be organized so that when it is needed, it can easily be used.
  • Communication: Must be a team player and working well with others is crucial.
  • Attention to Detail: Must be able to look at the minute details to make sure it is being documented and tracked properly.
  • Logical Thinking: Must be able to look at what data needs to be recorded and determine how to track it in such a way that it will be easily used in the future.
  • Problem-Solving: Must be able to solve data problems as they arise.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (health, social service, education, rehabilitation, non-profit administration,) preferred.
  • Relevant experience may be substituted for some of the educational requirements.
  • 3-5 years of experience human services
  • Excel, Microsoft Office, data base management
  • Working in or involved with the relevant community or disability in which the position serves.
  • Have own transportation.

Familiarity with:

  • Independent Living issues and philosophy.
  • Community resources and local service system for persons with disabilities/ (older persons) and how to arrange for services.
  • MassHealth, state agencies and provider service system available to serve individuals with disabilities/(older persons);
  • Civil rights for individuals with disabilities

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
