Center for Neurosciences is Hiring a Medical Assistant - Pediatric Neuro Near Tucson, AZ

Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities for assigned physician and/or other areas as needed.
2. Checks schedules and organizes patient flow. Ensures pre-visit information is completed.
3. Coordinates appointments for specific care and diagnostic procedures.
4. Alerts physician/provider of any special needs the patient may have (e.g., interpretation
services).
5. Takes vital signs, including weight, height and blood pressure. Records vital signs in the
patient’s EHR.
6. Accompanies patients to exam/procedure room, assists patients as needed with walking,
transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
7. Assists physician/provider in examination of patients and gives instructions to patients as
directed by the physician/provider.
8. Enters required orders, as directed by the physician/provider, in the patient’s EHR. Enters
any additional information as appropriate in the EHR.
9. Adheres to all meaningful use workflows.
10. Follows up with EHR tasks in an appropriate timeframe.
11. Answers phone calls and takes messages for physician/provider. Returns patient phone calls
as directed by the physician/provider and in accordance with CNS protocols.
12. Checks voice mail throughout the day for messages.
13. Obtains approval from the physician/provider for medication refills and notifies the
pharmacy.
14. Administers injections as directed by the physician/provider.
15. Notifies patients of test results as instructed by the physician/provider.
16. Assures quality of care by maintaining clinic standards of care while adhering to
requirements of other governing agencies.
17. Protects patients and employees by complying with infection control policies and procedures.
Adheres to expectations of required/mandatory training and certifications.
18. Handles patient discharge after appointment.
19. Manages incoming and outbound faxes. Ensures physician sees and signs faxed patient
information prior to sending to medical records for scanning.
20. Communicates to appropriate staff any patient concerns, issues, cancellations, etc. Consults
with the immediate supervisor about any system problems.
21. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include:
a. obtains lab/radiology reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
b. completes forms/requisitions as needed
c. schedules appointments
d. confirms insurance coverage and patient demographics
e. requests prior authorizations as needed
f. manages and updates charts to ensure that information is complete and filed
appropriately
22. Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include:
a. sets up exam rooms for patient care according to physician needs
b. sets up instruments and equipment according to department protocols
c. cleans exam rooms, procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient
visits to maintain infection control
d. orders, sorts, stores and checks for expiration dates on supplies and restock
exam/procedure rooms
e. ensures operation of medical equipment by following manufacturer’s instructions,
reporting malfunctions and requesting repairs
23. Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including:
a. respects and promote patient rights
b. responds appropriately to emergencies
c. shares problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor
d. works as a productive member of the team helping co-workers as needed and/or
assigned
24. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), medical assistant
certification from an accredited institution.
Experience: Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical
assistant or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Must possess a current CPR certification.
