The Opportunity:

We are seeking a professional “Director of Accounting” that will lead, guide, and direct an accounting department while also serving as the accounting liaison with the executive team and internal departments. This role will oversee and ensure the accuracy of all accounting and finance functions of the organization and will be responsible for the compliance and timeliness of the preparation and filing of all necessary financial statements for the company. The successful candidate will have excellent analytical, problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of GAAP practices to provide strength of internal controls and opportunities for policy and process improvements and efficiencies. This is a leadership position reporting to the CEO with routine interactions with the executive team and Board.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the overall functioning of the accounting department to include preparation of all necessary financial statements and reporting ensuring all deadlines are met. Works with the Accounting Manager to identify issues and improvements, as necessary.
  • Reviews monthly financial results and data to ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded and presents to department heads (Directors, VP’s, Executives) to ensure all financial decisions are in alignment with the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Analyze financial data for patterns, trends, and anomalies, and recommend corrective action, as necessary.
  • Leads the budgeting process with coordination and providing actual/historical data to improve processes for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversees the annual audit and tax filing preparation by external accountants, prepares or reviews documentation requests and is the primary contact with external accountants.
  • Approves Wire and ACH payments within established approval limits.
  • Master’s and manages accounting software products and modules, creates new reports, leads new accounting software implementations.
  • Documents and conducts annual performance reviews and appraisals with direct reports. Creates appropriate and effective developmental plans for team members based on their individual strengths, developmental needs and career aspirations and abilities.
  • Completes ad hoc analysis and projects as needed and continuously strives for ongoing improvement.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an accounting or finance role of increasing responsibility.
  • Experience in Mentoring an accounting team.
  • Active CPA license is required.
  • Previous public accounting experience.
  • Proven success leveraging technology to create efficiencies. Experience with Sage Intacct a plus!
  • Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products including superior Excel skills.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP with the ability to review, interpret and implement new accounting standards and concepts.
  • Must have the ability to develop and maintain a ‘best-in-class’ accounting department in managing staff levels and workload to uphold a ‘work/life’ balance.
  • Ability to cultivate and motivate an environment of trust, teamwork and accountability within the team and across the organization.

Position status: Exempt / Full-time

This position is predominantly remote (hybrid) with occasional in-person meetings in our beautiful corporate office in downtown Denver. In addition, this position will include limited travel to our other locations.

Salary: $126,583 / Exempt / Full-time
