Description
Core functions:
Performs all duties and responsibilities consistent with the MA/Phlebotomy role within the clinical, phlebotomy and procedure suite area. Responsible for supporting administrative team with clerical duties at the front desk. Works under the general supervision of CARS Director of Clinical Operations and Clinical Operations Manager as well as on-site Assistant Practice Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities Phlebotomy & MA:
- Performs phlebotomy, performance of specialty phlebotomy kits such as FDAs, Myriad, etc.
- Performs data entry for clinical lab results into CARS EMR.
- Maintains efficient patient flow activities
- Performs routine procedures, for example, vital signs, height, weight, BMI
- Performs CLIA approved decentralized tests
- Prepares patients for and assists with medical exams and specialty procedures such as: sonohystograms, ultrasounds, endometrial biopsies, HSGs
- Instructs patients as outlined and for basic diagnostic procedures/treatments/specimen collections
- Performs clinical chart preparation and review to insure smooth clinical functioning
- Performs chart maintenance as required, scanning etc.
- Performs RESource data entry and documentation
- May review pre-printed instructions with patient as indicated
- Refers patient to appropriate staff when special needs are identified
- Reports pertinent observations to nursing or medical personnel
- Documents appropriate activities in medical records and other data collection sources
- Participates in unit’s Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement projects and data collection
- Prepares exam rooms and work areas on a daily basis including stocking and cleaning exam rooms
- Performs decontamination and sterilization of equipment/attest and supplies per protocol
- Performs scheduled routine maintenance requirements for autoclave and sterilization equipment
- Inventories, maintains and orders supplies and equipment
- Maintains availability of appropriate clinical packets and paperwork insuring updated versions are used
- Maintains adequate and current patient education supplies, tools, packets, class materials
- Maintains a clean and safe working environment
- Adheres to OSHA regulations and other regulatory agency requirements.
- Checks equipment and reports that which is malfunctioning
- Liasion with vendors for supplies, repairs etc
- Maintains compliance with Preventative maintenance (PMs) policies and procedures
- Acclimates house staff, medical, nursing and medical assistants to clinical services
- Participates in staff development, interdepartmental in-services and orientation programs
- Responsible for reading staff meeting minutes and being informed if not attending staff meeting
- May transport patients specimens and equipment as needed throughout CARS
Administrative Duties:
- Greets patients, signs patients in; acts as triage/ receptionist for incoming patients and telephone calls; schedules patient appointments for new and established patients; obtains/ processes billing/ insurance information.
Laboratory Duties:
- May involve preparing specimens for intrauterine insemination.
Contacts:
Patients, families, physicians, nurses, researchers, administrative personnel, vendors, other
Health care members and the community.
Work Characteristics
Physical demands from walking, standing and lifting related to patient care activities as well as supplies and equipment.
May be exposed to infectious diseases, waste, other body fluids, and discharges.
Frequently exposed to highly pressurized, emotional environment.
Strength and stamina sufficient for the effective performance of duties.
Work Variable
Expected to work assigned weekends, holidays and/or evenings in our Farmington location to meet patient needs and schedule demands in growing clinical area. Must be available to work in any CARS office/location as assigned.
Work Schedule
This position is full time and will take place in the Springfield office. The schedule will be made by the supervisor and will be relayed to the employee in advance.
Variable and as assigned. Flexibility needed based upon clinical and patient care needs. CARS is open 363 days per week.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program preferred
MA registration or certification desirable
May substitute two years current experience in medical assisting in an office practice setting for graduate of medical assistant program requirement
Completion of formal phlebotomy training and evidence of proficiency skills or 1 year full time acceptable work experience as a phlebotomist.
