Center Community Alternatives is Hiring a Reentry Coordinator Near Brooklyn, NY

Position Summary: CCA’s Youth Services Department is seeking a qualified youth development professional to support youth transitioning from NYC’s juvenile detention and DOCCS facilities in connecting with CCA’s NextGen Neighborhood Youth Network.

Direct Supervisor: Director of Reentry Programs

Responsibilities:

Facility-Based – 40%

· A weekly physical presence at DOC detention site, Rikers Island; support of current reentry team efforts at ACS secure detention sites, Crossroads Juvenile Center and Horizon Juvenile Center; and ACS non-secure detention sites Belmont Passages Academy and Bronx Hope

· Build relationships with youth housed at NYC detention sites and advertise CCA’s NextGen program to youth and facility staff and contractors; connect with youth within 48 hours of discharge from detention site

· Build excellent working relationships with facility staff, including Case Management and Program Teams, Reentry Specialists and other contracted providers

· Coordinate with all stakeholders to review existing youth assessments and reentry plans

· Work with youth and stakeholders to update/develop reentry plans

· Develop Reentry Portfolios and Skills Passports with youth to capture strengths, interests, and experience; engage existing program staff and contracted providers to support in this effort

· Develop relationships with subcontracted NextGen partner organizations, who will provide Reentry Mentors for the NextGen Network; provide youth with detailed information about each mentor and organization within the network

· Develop opportunities for Reentry Mentors and youth to connect pre-release; work with facility partners to create a rotating schedule of reentry workshops led by Reentry Mentors

· Work with facility providers and Reentry Mentors to develop a positive, contributing presence in the facilities; support monthly Family Night activities, resource fairs and other special events

· Work with Reentry Mentors and CCA team to deliver high-quality enrichment, restorative justice and career pathways workshops through youth development and trauma-informed best practices

Community-Based – 60%

· Coordination of the reentry team’s community outreach efforts; including management of a NG Network monthly calendar, scheduling of monthly community outreach activities, a weekly presence at the Youth Services Brownsville site, a weekly presence at Brooklyn parole/probation, and flexibility to visit other community sites populated with NG eligible youth.

· Coordinate referrals to the NG Network for youth leaving facilities and transportation services with NextGen’s Mentor Driver program

· Enroll youth in NextGen partner mentoring program and match Reentry Mentors to youth based on interests and geographic location

· Coordinate with Reentry Mentors to provide a Welcome Home Bag with emergency basic needs upon release including metro cards, prepaid phones, clothing and food vouchers; coordinate with Youth Services’ Operation Team manage WHB inventory; coordinate WHB pickups with NextGen partners

· In partnership with Reentry Mentors, connect regularly with Reentry Mentor organization, youth and family to ensure youth are engaged and working towards reentry milestones

· Participate in NextGen in-service meetings to ensure Reentry Mentors have access to resources to support youth with housing, mental health, employment and education

· Participate in regular Partner Visits to view partner space and programs; build relationships with Reentry Mentors and connect with youth enrolled in NextGen; complete Partner Visit evaluations

· Support CCA’s Youth Advisory Board, Youth Fellow program and Residential Councils and develop additional opportunities for youth leadership and input on NextGen network design

· Update QuickBase database on a weekly basis to reflect screened youth, in-facility and community-based outreach, reentry plan development and assignment to NextGen partner

· Review partner data to track participant progress and report successes, challenges and recommendations to supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, social work, or other related field degree preferred.
  • Lived experience and family experience in the criminal legal system are highly preferred.
  • Current DOC and ACS clearances are highly preferred.
  • At least 3 years’ youth development, education, or mentoring experience required; work readiness program coordination experience preferred.
  • Experience working with justice-involved youth in a detention, facility is highly desirable.
  • Experience creating successful client-specific plans for youth who have been justice-involved.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing restorative justice-based youth development and trauma-informed best practices
  • Excellent networking, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
