The Providing Climate Change and Health Community Support at the Local Level project aims to accelerate adaptation efforts and to increase local resilience by building the capacity of communities to plan and address the health effects of climate change. The CDC Foundation in collaboration with CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) will provide grants, mentorship, partnership, and subject matter expertise to Midwest and Gulf South communities to pursue adaptation efforts that protect population health from climate change.

The CDC Foundation seeks candidates for a full time Project Manager, Climate & Health to lead the implementation of environmental justice initiatives with community-based organizations (CBOs). The Project Manager, Climate & Health will advise and coordinate technical assistance to CBO grantees, while liaising with CDC Foundation and CDC teams on day-to-day activities. This involves providing and coordinating technical assistance to implement local resilience plans and data collection initiatives and collaborating with CDC’S NCEH to share project progress and climate and health best practices for continued support of localized climate health initiatives.

This is an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s leading agency charged with protecting the public's health. The CDC Foundation offers a competitive salary and attractive benefits package. The expected hiring range for this position is $105,000-$120,000, depending on experience.

Job Highlights

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and administer contracts through scope and partnership management, including liaising with CDC Foundation and NCEH project teams.
  • Ensure coordination, facilitate communication and collaboration between the CDC Foundation, community-based organizations and other relevant partners including NCEH, the CDC’s Climate and Health Program, technical assistance providers, and state/local government agencies.
  • Provide virtual and in-person, context-specific consultation and technical assistance to community-based organizations implementing environmental justice and climate adaptation initiatives, including development of local preparedness action plans and data collection activities.
  • Engage in relevant group meetings and planning activities of CDC’s Climate and Health Program.
  • Participate in peer-networking and learning with other foundations, academic institutions and other organizations working in the climate and health space.
  • Lead to the collection and synthesis of climate adaptation best practices and data to inform recommendations for growing support of environment justice initiatives.
  • Lead technical presentations with communities, CDC Foundation and NCEH staff, including participation in national conferences and convenings on environmental justice.
  • This project may require up to 20% domestic travel for site visits, partner convenings, and conferences.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in public health; environmental sciences or a closely related curriculum from an accredited institution.
  • 5 or more years of combined experience overseeing environmental sciences and/or disaster risk reduction initiatives.
  • Experience managing grants, contracts and budgets.
  • Experience developing and applying state/local policy, geospatial, economic and vulnerability assessment data to drive program design and evaluation for climate adaptation initiatives.
  • Experience working in or with community -based organizations to partner with state/local health agencies.
  • Written and verbal communications skills that can translate complex technical issues to community and expert audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting climate adaptation initiatives in Midwest and/or Gulf South regions.
  • Expertise in the human health effects of climate change, including disproportionate impacts faced by some populations.
