POSITION: Surgical Patient Navigator

DEPARTMENT: Surgery

HOURS: 0.6-0.8 FTE (48-64 hours per pay period)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Patient Navigator plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless coordination of care for patients undergoing large surgeries. This position primarily focuses on supervising the prior authorization process and providing essential patient education. The Patient Navigator collaborates closely with the clinic team to ensure that patients receive the highest quality of care and support throughout their surgical journey. The Patient Navigator will be point of contact for Joint Clinic, Education and follow up with patients that have undergone major surgeries (i.e.: colon resections, hernia repair, Cholecystectomy, Hysterectomy, other cases as not identified.)

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

• A current unrestricted Minnesota Registered Nurse license
• Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.

SKILL(S):

• Knowledge of insurance authorization processes or willingness to learn, including prior authorization requirements and documentation.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, families, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
• Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care, with a commitment to providing exceptional service and support.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic health records (EHR) systems.

EXPERIENCE:

• Prior surgical experience, care coordination, or patient advocacy roles.
