JOB DEVELOPER – GRANT FUNDEDINSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESSMALCOLM X COLLEGE

Through the Workforce Equity Initiative Grant OHC funds Project Evolve, a program designed to support Chicago’s African - American and Hispanic populations and those who are unemployed or underemployed and to improve workforce equity in at-risk communities. Students participating in the program are enrolled in certificate programs leading to employment in high-skilled, high-wage, and in-demand occupations. Certificate programs include Automotive Technology, Aviation Technology, Cannabis, CDL A, CDL B, Cybersecurity, Diesel technology, Forklift, Supply Chain Management and Software. 

Olive-Harvey College also utilizes staff services from Jobs for the Future (JFF) to support the college’s efforts in engaging employers to hire Project Evolve student participants completing certificate training programs and providing job search services to students.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Workforce Equity Initiatives, a Job Developer performs a range of job placement and job development activities to assist students completing Olive-Harvey College’s certificate training programs with finding employment in jobs that match their job skills and qualifications. Accountable for working with staff from Jobs for the Future (JFF).

A Job Developer works independently and with Jobs for the Future (JFF) staff in engaging local and regional employers to successfully identify locate secure job openings in various occupational areas; creates interest in hiring graduating students by marketing OHC’s vocational training programs to employers and business organizations; and works with students to orient them to available job placement services. Performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Identifies and establishes working relationships with local and regional employers to develop job leads for Project Evolve students completing certificate training programs. 
  •  Initiates and maintains personal contact with employers to solicit their interest and involvement in the recruitment and employment of OHC students. Markets certificate programs and the availability of students with the training and skills needed to meet their employment needs.
  •  Works collaboratively with department leadership and college administrators to support Project Evolve and Jobs for the Future (JFF) program objectives.
  •  Plans, organizes, and executes on-campus job fairs and employer engagement events to bring employers on campus, tour training facilities, and speak to students enrolled in certificate training programs about career opportunities.
  • Prepares requisitions to procure items such as food, transportation, swag, and supplies to execute planned events and related activities. Places orders with vendors and works with support staff to ensure appropriate and timely processing of purchase requisitions. 
  • Works with JFF staff and college administrators to coordinate the provision of wraparound services and activities to support job placement services and assist students with the job search process.
  • Plans and organizes career fairs, career readiness workshops, field trips, and other activities to engage potential and current students with an interest in completing certificate training programs. 
  • Participates in providing career readiness workshops to students including job search process, resume writing, effective interviewing, soft skills development, and related career readiness skills. 
  • Maintains a database of job leads and potential employers. Informs students of job opportunities and connects them with suitable employment opportunities.
  • Collects and tracks student job placement data; complies data and prepares reports regarding job development and placement efforts. 
  • Researches job market to remains abreast of industry trends and employment demand for skilled technicians and workers in occupational/vocational fields.
  • Networks with professional/community organizations involved in job placement activities. 
  • Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Education, Counseling, or a related field relevant to the job.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, job placement or development, workforce development, student services, or career advising
  • Work experience in an academic setting highly desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with and relate to a culturally diverse student body, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to work effectively with different levels of staff within the organization
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to handle all situations with tact, persuasiveness, and diplomacy
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

GRANT END DATE – 9/30/2024

 

Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within 6 months of hire.
