Primary Focus Serve as Digital and Strategic Communications Advisor in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA) Press Office (NEA/PPD - Press), reporting to the NEA/PPD Strategic Communications Chief. The Digital & Strategic Communications Advisor performs a variety of duties that the Bureau must conduct to support the public messaging of the Bureau both domestically and within the Middle East region. The Digital & Strategic Communications Advisor will focus on building the NEA Bureau's online presence, including planning, and drafting relevant content pertaining to USG policy in the region and other related material. He/she must be fully aware of the policies and viewpoints of the NEA bureau as they relate to current foreign policy situations and projected Bureau program activities in support of the Bureau press and outreach strategy and activities. The Digital & Strategic Communications Advisor will also implement and maintain the strategy for NEA's social media presence; regularly monitor social media mentions and recommend potential responses or engagement that will maximize U.S. national security interests and provide analysis to quantify the relative success and resonance of social media products and support the Office of Press and Public Diplomacy office across a broad range of other press, social media, and public diplomacy work. This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse. Responsibilities * Develops, edits, publishes, and distributes digital content for online platforms.
* Responsible for collecting and analyzing public diplomacy (PD) program highlight reports, cables, evaluations, media placements, policy documents, speeches, and other data produced by NEA/PPD and U.S. missions in the region.
* Engages, coordinates, and maintains liaison with key department and interagency stakeholder units that create digital content to ensure NEA Digital campaigns and products support Department messaging priorities and meets Department branding requirements.
* Research, track, and analyze trends in digital content creation, usage, and relevant technologies and tactics to identify and reach public audience abroad.
* The Digital and Strategic Communications Advisor will work closely with the NEA desk offices, other NEA senior officials and with the Bureau of Public Affairs to provide press guidance and public affairs support on the full range of NEA issues. The Digital and Strategic Communications Advisor will also assist with talking points, print interviews, and otherwise assist in support of the NEA/Press office. The Digital and Strategic Communications Advisor must be available after hours and on weekends for emergency work as is necessary to support senior NEA officials.
* The Digital and Strategic Communications Advisor will serve as a backup NEA spokesperson on relevant issues and will engage with domestic and international media to advance NEA, respond to press inquiries, conduct rapid response in times of crises, and counter negative narratives.
* The Digital and Strategic Communications Advisor will coordinate with the press team on press engagements and operations, which may include, but not limited to, preparing senior officials for media engagements, and executing such engagements, supporting the Office of the Spokesperson for daily press briefings and other Office of the Spokesperson activities, drafting and clearing press guidance and media products for release. As part of these duties, The Digital and Strategic Communications Advisor will liaise with White House National Security Council press office as well as interagency press officers to coordinate media engagement.
* As needed, The Digital and Strategic Communications Advisor will travel with NEA officials to oversee press and public engagements. To complete NEA task, the Digital and Strategic Communications Advisor will be required to travel to all NEA countries of interest within the region.
* Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: * Excellent knowledge of Department of State operations and foreign policy in the Near Eastern Affairs region.
* Skill in written communication and graphic design to develop complex messaging products for delivery by senior officials.
* Expert knowledge of online media and social networking platforms and professional experience in content creation, video capture and editing, and website and social media management is required.
* Ability to analyze statistics that quantify the relative success and resonance of social media products.
* Skilled in promoting brands to target markets via media.
* Ability to work under tight or short deadlines.
* Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance required.
* Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
Minimum Skills: * Must possess problem-solving skills.
* Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written
* Ability to respond effectively to customers with a sense of urgency.
* Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc.
* Highly motivated with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks at any one time.
* Ability to forge new relationships, individual and teaming in nature.
* Must be a Self-starter, that can work independently and as part of a team. Reports to: Program Manager Working Conditions * Professional office environment.
* Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties while standing for extended periods of time.
* Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
* Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
* Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
* May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
* May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
* May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
