The ESL Program at Catholic Charities has immediate openings for part-time English as a Second Language Teachers. Though our classes are leveled, ESL teachers should be comfortable working with all levels of ESL learners. Curriculum materials are provided, but teachers are expected to adapt and supplement our standard curriculum based on their learners’ goals as workers, family members, and community members. Volunteer classroom aides are used to assist in all of our classes, so teachers need to be comfortable managing volunteers in the classroom. Teachers also participate in program improvement and professional development activities.
Teach classes to immigrants and refugees at assigned class level. Class schedule: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. All classes currently meet on Zoom, but teachers should be prepared to teach face-to-face classes. All applicants should be familiar with Zoom functions, including managing breakout rooms and screen sharing.
Using provided curriculum as a core instructional material, prepare lessons based on student goals, preferences, interests, and needs; create and share supplemental materials and activities as needed to meet student needs.
Fulfill administrative duties including maintaining student files through documentation of daily class attendance, preparation of daily lesson plans, quarterly progress notes, communicating with assigned volunteer classroom aides, and submitting all timesheets and documentation in a timely fashion. Attend monthly staff meeting, participate in program improvement process, and attend ESL trainings and conferences.
ESL Teachers typically teach one or two classes, for a total of 10 hours per week. The class schedules are set for the duration of the year at the beginning of each program year, so the teaching schedule is rigid. Though most teachers choose to teach one class, it is possible to maintain a two-class schedule. All teacher resources are housed on a Google Drive, so teachers should have familiarity with Google Suite.
Bachelor’s degree, Certifications or Licenses Required. One year ESL teaching experience.
