Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster is Hiring a Migration Outreach Coordinator Near Kingston, NY

Summary:

The Coordinator will focus on marketing for outreach events, cultural competency workshops, community events and other community venues. Attention to cultural norms and needs while working with a diverse community of clients from different immigrant backgrounds. Serve as a liaison and/or interpreter between clients and community organizations. Will need to have effective communication skills, leadership skills and problem –solving skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Work closely with the Case Management staff, other CCOSU (Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster) programs/staff and affiliate agencies.

2. Assist with migrant patients enrolled in case management.

3. Maintain up-to-date client notes in the case management platform.

4. Maintain a current awareness of resources and support services in the local communities.

5. Collaborate with community-based social services and other legal services programs.

6. Conduct trainings and consultations for service providers and community partners

7. Attend internal and external trainings and apply newly gained knowledge on the job.

8. Identify and attend relevant events to promote migration services.

9. Coordinate all outreach processes (identifying, scheduling, presenting to, following up with, and tracking of clients and new and existing partners on behalf of the entire team) and reporting on the progress and outcomes. This also includes frequent collaboration within the team for consistent outreach materials and messaging, and effective partner development and tracking.

10. Coordinate outreach and recruitment events utilizing technology and a virtual presence in addition to traveling throughout the county regularly for key in-person opportunities.

11. Conduct outreach to immigrant community to enhance knowledge of and access to services.

12. Plan and promote outreach events at multiple sites.

13. Participate in community meetings, associations and taskforces that are related to the area of programming provided.

14. Conduct outreach and engagement initiatives and multicultural events, i.e., participating in Hispanic Heritage Month event, Italian American Heritage Month event, Hooley / St. Patrick’s Day parade, Italian American Festival, Caribbean Festival, etc. This includes tabling events, street fairs and block parties to serve our communities.

15. Provide assistance with immigration matters and client services.

16. Complete client casework with intakes, taking notes, making copies, receiving documents from clients, reviewing DOJ Representative approved applications with clients for signing, mailing cases, communicating with clients.

17. Provide active listening and record keeping with clients, responding to questions in an ethical and culturally sensitive manner.

18. Help maintain and organize the immigration offices, creating and maintaining filing systems, both physical and electronic/digital, and maintaining immigration office equipment.

19. Coordinate and assist with, and interpret for, non-immigration pro-bono attorneys on a 1x/weekly basis, including scheduling and organizing clients for consults with attorneys.

20. Participate in partner agency meetings with immigration team members as needed.

21. Identify supportive services in the community.

22. Other duties as assigned to support the overall program and agency initiatives.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position. Although days and hours of work are generally 9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday, additional hours will be required to meet agency deadlines, attend meetings and special events, and manage emergencies as they arise.
  • Flexibility, including ability to travel and work on occasional evenings or weekend days as needed.

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies:

The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Use of computer to complete reports and provide needed information to the Supervisor.
  • Familiarity with Ulster County
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment i.e., phone, copier, fax, scanner, postage machine and printer.
  • Remain in a stationary position at a workstation and use a computer at least 75% of the time.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office including word and excel.
  • Strong methodical, written, and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and judgment, and a demonstrated capability for working cooperatively in a team environment.

Qualifications:

Education and/or experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, international relations, or a similar field
  • Knowledge of migration and refugee issues is highly desired.
  • Proven experience as an immigration consultant, preferably expertise in individuals from more than one country.
  • Case management experience required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in community outreach or migration services
  • Experience working with and/or representing a broad range of people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities, and people with low incomes.

Skills, Licenses and/or competencies:

  • Bilingual in Spanish is required; Q’eqchi is preferred.
  • Multilingual skills preferred.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and inspire others as a team.
  • Ability to plan, take responsibility, set priorities and delegate effectively.
  • Commitment to team approach in legal services.
  • Strict observance of all applicable deadlines.
  • Thoroughness, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with a focus on customer service
  • Excellent oral advocacy and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills; knowledge of standard office equipment and technology in a Windows-based environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Use of a registered and insured vehicle for local travel.

Pay: $27.47 per hour
