Catholic Charities Diocese is Hiring a Case Aide (Temporary Position) Near San Diego, CA

POSITION TITLE: Case Aide Migrant Shelter (Temporary Position)

DEPARTMENT: Refugee Services

REPORTS TO: Program Manager, Migrant Shelter

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE: Full-time (40 hours/week) early morning, evening, and weekend hours

SALARY: $19-$21.00/hour

BENEFITS: Medical, dental, vision, prescription drug, and life insurance coverage, cash-balance pension plan, 403(b), vacation, and sick leave.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Case Aide assists the migrant sheltering program in supporting the transportation needs of individuals and/or the program utilizing the agency vehicle. The Case Manager Assistant operates Catholic Charities vehicles to transport clients, food, and other commodities between sheltering location(s), as well as provide supportive services to migrants as instructed by case managers, Supervisors, and Program Managers. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely drive vehicle(s) to transport clients to and from various locations, including sheltering sites, clinics, hospitals, airports, and/or greyhound stations.
  • Accompany and guide clients in person at the various drop-off sites to ensure they successfully check in.
  • Distribute supplies needed by migrants including prescriptions, clothing, hygiene items…etc. and organize supply areas regularly.
  • Safely transport donations and supplies to and from the office and sheltering site. 
  • Load, and unload commodities as directed by the onsite supervisor.
  • Take vehicle(s) to be cleaned inside at frequency observed and indicated by vehicle(s) conditions.
  • Perform daily vehicle(s) safety inspections: tires, fluids and refuel vehicle as needed; report mechanical problems to Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to meet each of the qualifications listed below satisfactorily:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years driving experience
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, including and up to 15-passenger vans.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to read a map, follow GPS or instructions while navigating to various locations within San Diego County.
  • Must exhibit excellent customer service skills while interacting with Catholic Charities staff, volunteers, partners, clients, and donors at all times. 
  • Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow basic instructions and to communicate clearly about job responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of/familiarity with/sensitivity to the cultural background of migrant populations served by the program
  • Knowledge of/familiarity with or ability to learn quickly the resources and providers (governmental, civic, social, health, educational, economic, faith-based, etc.) that are available within the community/county to assist migrants
  • Ability in English to read and comprehend simple instructions, labels, and memos.
  • Ability in English to express verbally what is needed and what has been done.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Safe driving record as demonstrated by a DMV report that shows no violations/restrictions
  • Must pass/complete a FBI/DOJ live scan 
  • Tuberculin Skin Test
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (desired)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and to get in and out of a vehicle. The employee frequently is required to walk; climb stairs; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds using equipment provided. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
