Overview:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting general accounting functions across the organization. Reporting to the Controller, this person will assist with the annual financial statement audit and the 401K plan audit. This person will also support several month-end close functions such as reviewing batches, journal entries and invoice packages. Support with the organizations fixed assets monitoring and assisting with the preparation of various report filings will also be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the annual financial statement audit, which includes ensuring audit schedules are prepared and reviewed on a timely basis and completion of the annual audit in a timely fashion.
• Support the annual 401K plan audit, ensuring timely preparation and submission of audit schedules.

Assist with the following general accounting tasks:

• Review payment batches for accounts payable disbursements
• Review Federal billing/invoice packages
• Review and post cash application batches
• Review journal entries
• Assist with preparation of the quarterly Federal financial report 425s
• Support fixed asset monitoring and annual physical inventory process
• Reviews and monitors credit and collection activities for new customers
• Support the review of monthly balance sheet reconciliation accounts
• Assist with census report and county property tax filings
• Enter and review non-employee expense reimbursement requests

QUALIFICATIONS

• BS/BA in accounting required. CPA and/or candidate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• 5-7 years financial and accounting (GAAP) experience
• Experience working with MSFT Dynamics SL accounting software
• Previous supervisory experience or managerial experience
• Experience in federal billing and grants management
• Strong hands-on accounting experience in core accounting functions such as general ledger, payroll, accounts payable and billing/accounts receivable
• Experience and understanding of nonprofit regulatory requirements
• Must be flexible and independent, and able to work effectively with functional teams across the organization, often as team leader
• Must be able to successfully meet deadlines
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices
• Strong technical spreadsheet applications experience, primarily Excel
• Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills
• System/database experience (Dynamics SL)
• Must be a team player with the ability to work with staff at all organizational levels across various operating groups
• Must be a motivated self-starter; able to work independently
• Must have discretion with handling confidential or sensitive information
• Must have the ability to multi-task in order to oversee multiple projects at one time
