Cass Health is Hiring a Pacific Islander Community Health Worker/Medical Interpreter Near Atlantic, IA

Position Summary Provides accurate interpretation and translation of critical medical information in direct service to providers, nurses and/or other health care staff who are seeing Chuukese patients who cannot speak or understand English when specifically required by the provider. Will collaborate closely with public health and care coordination staff to assist with several health equity projects for the Pacific Islander community in Cass County and other communities served by Cass Health and Cass County Public Health. Address disparities by removing barriers to ensure greater health equity and access to healthcare resources by improving and expanding health messaging and education in the areas of vaccine equity, diabetes information, promotion of prenatal and well-child checks, and other projects assigned by the Director of Public Health.# Education and Experience Requirements EDUCATION: Required: High school diploma or GED.# Preferred: LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Required: Driver#s License Preferred: Certification/Licensure Interpreter/Translator Certificate and/or Certificate of Competency from an approved Interpreter/Translator training program. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Required: Fluency in Chuukese language.# Ability to precisely and accurately translate critical medical information from English to the patient#s native language. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. Ability to interact and communicate with people over the telephone, often in stressful situations. Ability to work outside of normal working hours as needed. Preferred: Current knowledge of medical terminology and procedures. Essential Job Functions Precisely and accurately interprets critical medical advice and information given by the provider or nursing staff into equivalent terminology in the patient#s native language (Chuukese). Assists in translating medical text from English on behalf of internal and external customers; may translate patient education information as specifically requested. Establishes and maintains quality service and positive interaction with all patients, customers, visitors, health care providers, and clinical employees. Assists with patient follow-up as necessary, to include contacting patients with appointment reminders. Maintains strict patient confidentiality in accordance with Cass Health policies and standards. Provides occasional services outside of normal working hours on as as-needed basis. Connects families through referrals to a wide range of community resources and services. Actively engages in community outreach events with community and organizations for the purpose of improving health equity.# Completes accurate, timely and confidential documentation/records, as assigned. Participates in agency meetings, supervision, and other trainings/meetings, as identified appropriate. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
