Description

This position is located at Rockwood Respite, a crisis respite program in Gresham. This position is on-call/per diem for all shifts.

Respite is a voluntary program that occurs within a safe and relaxed atmosphere, away from the stressors that may be impacting an individual's sense of security and stability. Residents at Respite receive three meals a day, interact in the milieu, explore hobbies, take a walk in a quiet neighborhood setting, and receive on-site support from caring and skillful respite staff at all times. Respite provides support for individuals who need further stabilization due to recent medication adjustment, or needs a break from current living situation which appears to be increasing psychiatric symptom and is diagnosed with a mental illness, excluding mental disorders due to a general condition.

The Mental Health Aide works as a member of an interdisciplinary team to implement and monitor treatment for residents within the residential facility, while supporting a Trauma Informed Care environment. With the high prevalence of trauma among individuals receiving mental health services, it is required the Residential Counselor II understand the effects of trauma on health, coping, and other aspects of the lives of those we serve. This position involves participation and implementation of program goals and objectives to promote a strengths-based, client centered approach to assisting residents in achieving individual goals and ultimately transitioning to a less restrictive setting.

All incumbents must understand, appreciate and respect the diversity and cultural differences within our Cascadia community. It is expected that there is an awareness and sensitivity to the perspectives and perceptions to those we serve, as well as our colleagues. As Cascadia is Trauma informed, the incumbent must support a Trauma Informed Care Environment. With the high prevalence of trauma among individuals receiving behavioral health services, it is required that the incumbent understand the effects of trauma on health, coping, and other aspects of the lives of those we serve.

Essential Duties:

This position description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of responsibilities or an all inclusive job description.

  • Work with stakeholders to complete referrals for incoming clients and work with clients to complete intake process.
  • Provide individual and/or group skills training, supervision and support in areas such as self-care, hygiene, community resources, and other life skills as directed by the plan of care.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions with residents as required and directed by the service plans(s) and program leadership, both in individual and group capacity.
  • Participate in regular supervision and act in the role of Primary Treatment Coordinator. Attend clinical case conferences and staff meetings to gain knowledge and communicate program and resident needs.
  • Assist in crisis situations as appropriate, following emergency protocols/procedures and coordinating with the treatment team with interventions which support a trauma informed environment for residents and staff.
  • Assist in meal set-up, preparation, serving, and clean up related to meal times or cooking group activities. Perform other household chores as needed, including but not limited to, light housekeeping and cleaning of biohazards.
  • Accompany residents to, and assist residents during medical appointments in the community.
  • Assist in crisis situations as appropriate, following emergency protocols/procedures and coordinating with the treatment team with interventions which support a trauma informed environment for residents and staff.
  • Respect and honor client rights and responsibilities and demonstrate professional boundaries and ethics.
  • Document and maintain clinical records in a manner that assures compliance with all agency policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation associated with assessment, treatment, residents progress and other activities as required.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for safety of residents and property; have an understanding of fire regulations and evacuation procedures; hold regular fire safety drills with residents in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPAA requirements and comply with and implement regulations, policies, and procedures under which the facility is licensed and operates
  • Complete annual employee training requirements on a timely basis as indicated in the licensing requirements for the facility as well as agency requirements. Attend seminars, training and other educational opportunities in order to develop professional skills and abilities.
  • Participate in all scheduled staff meetings, supervision sessions, and other departmental and agency meetings.
  • Must have the ability to perform CPR, First Aid, and properly use AED equipment. CPR/ First Aid certifications are required and must remain current.
  • Provide input into the establishment of operational procedures.
  • Coordinate with oncoming shift regarding resident concerns, building/program needs, and any relevant issues to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
  • Stay awake on all shifts.
  • Administer medication as per prescribers orders
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Level I requires no experience
  • Level II - Must meet the requirement to be credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) through MHACBO. A QMHA requires a Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science field from an accredited college or university , three years full time related work experience in mental health, or a combination of the two (an equivalency of three years). Certification must be current and in compliance with the OARs. Note: All QMHA positions in the state of Oregon will need to be filled by candidates who are officially QMHA certified or registered with MHACBO. For details, go directly to MHACBO (www.mhacbo.org)
  • Having experience working in a residential facility providing direct support is helpful
  • Experience working with those living with a severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) is desired
  • Ability to operate computer hardware and software and ability to learn and use electronic health record systems
  • Ability to pass DMV check and driving is preferred

Working Conditions

  • Ability to perform CPR, First Aid, and properly use AED equipment.
  • Must have the ability to assist the team in providing safety to all clients and staff in potentially volatile situations.
