General Manager- Port Operations

Overview

The General Manager of Port Operations is responsible for planning, administering, and reviewing the operations of one or more Carver Companies port terminals and/or related locations to optimize resources, minimize costs and maintain the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the safe, effective, efficient and profitable operations of one or more Carver Companies port terminal facilities and/or related locations by managing all aspects of the port and by meeting all commitments
• Develop and deliver on business plans as approved by senior management
• Assist with development of and oversee port terminal budget
• Handle coordination with carriers on delivery and/or shipment of product
• Manage vessel tug, barge switching and fleeting operations, working closely with Carver Marine Towing management personnel
• Responsible for oversight of all safety and health throughout the port terminal, including proper handling of any dangerous goods
• Develop and implement strategic and operational planning for the port and/or related locations, working closely with senior management
• Supervise shipping process and inventory management ensuring that materials and cargo arrive at it the destination in a timely manner
• Oversee coordination and distribution of all products to maximize efficiency of available space, expedition of loading vessels, etc
• Ensure adequate personnel is available to meet all objectives and commitments
• Directly supervise middle manager tier, including Port Operations Manager and related staff

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, logistics or business is preferred

A minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience in a leadership position in the maritime industry or similar is required
