Carolina Day School is Hiring an Upper School Science Teacher (2024-25 School Year) Near Asheville, NC

Carolina Day School is seeking an innovative and forward thinking High School Physical Science teacher to join our collaborative team of dedicated educators for the 2024-2025 school year. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a positive and engaging learning environment that addresses the diverse learning styles of our students. Our science curriculum is one that not only imparts scientific knowledge but also instills a deep understanding and appreciation for scientific concepts that are applicable in real-life situations.

The responsibilities and expectations of this position include teaching skills in the following areas in order to foster growth for students.

Student-Centered Approaches:

  • Work collaboratively to implement student-centered teaching approaches that cater to diverse learning styles and promote active engagement

  • Integrate real-world applications, hands-on experiments, and technology to make lessons relevant and exciting.

  • Collaborate with teachers from other disciplines to design and implement interdisciplinary projects, creating meaningful connections between subjects

Differentiated Instruction:

  • Identify and cater to various learning styles within the classroom.

  • Implement strategies to support students with diverse academic abilities and needs

Assessment and Adaptability:

  • Develop assessment methods that measure not only factual knowledge but also the ability to apply scientific reasoning and principles.

  • Modify teaching approaches based on ongoing assessment and feedback.

  • Continuously seek ways to improve and adjust instructional strategies to meet the evolving needs of students.

Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving:

  • Design learning activities that promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Encourage students to analyze and evaluate information, make informed decisions, and apply scientific principles to solve practical problem

Communication Skills:

  • Emphasize the development of effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in scientific contexts.

  • Incorporate activities that require students to articulate their understanding of scientific concepts to different audiences.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Accomplishes all tasks as appropriate. Other duties outside this description may be assigned as necessary. For example, club sponsorship, advising, and supporting student extracurricular activities.

Qualifications

Must possess a bachelor’s degree. A Master’s degree in Science, Education or other related field would be welcomed.
