The Computing Services central IT department provides services that have a strategic impact on university goals. CMU’s Computing Services department is searching for a Sr. Network Design Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will be responsible for the design, engineering, installation and maintenance of networks. Tests and evaluates systems such as LANs, WANs, the Internet, intranets or other data communication systems. Performs network modeling, analysis and planning to determine hardware and software solutions. Researches related products and makes hardware and software purchase recommendations, as well as addresses network issues regarding performance and security. Your core responsibilities will include: Deploys, configures, manages and monitors Local Area and Wide Area Networks. This includes deploying and supporting network technologies and services such as firewalls, load balancing, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, 802.11 wireless LANs, TCP/IP, Ethernet, and VPN. Monitors network security and connectivity. Gathers information to evaluate network performance, identify user needs and determine network requirements. Maintains accurate and updated documentation. Responds to tier 3 support requests regarding network issues; troubleshoots and determines resolution for network issues. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred (or a combination of education and relevant work experience) 5-7 years of Network Administration/Design Network Deployment and Support, and/or Network Security Administration experience required. Advanced Aruba Networks experience and/or certifications desired. Other wireless vendor experience and/or certifications also desired. Experience with cloud connectivity and service deployments and/or operations. Strong analytical skills Strong organizational and project planning/management skills Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills. Certifications: CCNA - Cisco Certified Network Associate - Cisco Systems Inc Requirements: Successful background check Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States.
