GROUNDS MAINTENANCE WORKER
Regular Part-Time: 36 hrs per week
THE DISTRICT
Carmichael Recreation and Park District is a dependent special district established in 1945, located 15 miles northeast of Sacramento. The District population is approximately 42,408 and has a budget of approximately $7.2 million for the General Fund in Fiscal Year 2023-24. There are 13 park sites, with a total of 178 acres, including 11 developed parks, a large community center, a botanical garden, community garden, and a 17-acre nature area.
THE POSITION
Under supervision, performs a wide variety of semi-skilled to skilled landscape and park maintenance tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist in pruning trees using hand or power saws.
· Assist in the maintenance of turf area by mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerating, and watering.
· Assist in planting and removing trees, shrubs, and other plant materials. Control weeds by hand-pulling and hoeing.
· Assist in the installation, repair and maintenance of sprinkler systems.
· Assist in the preparation of athletic fields and related facilities and equipment.
· Collect waste, empty, and line waste receptacles; remove debris to keep park areas clean and safe.
· Clean and sanitize park restrooms and other facilities.
· Enforce Park rules and ordinances. Work with and assist building maintenance and recreation staff.
· Assist in maintenance and service of a broad range of motorized equipment.
· Requires regular predictable attendance. Position requires working weekends.
· Requires the ability to read and interpret written instructions, manuals, and technical information.
· Other related duties may also be performed.
QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE OF:
· Tree pruning techniques, methods, and equipment such as pole saws and chainsaws.
· Basic methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in landscape and park maintenance.
· Safe work practices.
SKILL IN:
· Operating common tools and equipment commonly associated with building construction and maintenance.
· Installing, repairing, and maintaining irrigation systems.
· Tree, shrub, turf, and other plant material maintenance.
ABILITY TO:·
· Work independently or as a member of a crew.
· Follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
· Work from ladders, scaffolds, and aerial lifts
· Perform the physical requirements commonly associated with landscape and park maintenance.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
· Assist in the training and supervision of less experienced personnel and court-assigned workers
EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid California Class C License, a good driving record, and the ability to be covered by the District’s vehicle insurance policy.
Ability to work weekends.
SALARY and BENEFITS:
Hourly salary: $17.00 -$19.13

Retirement: Sacramento County Employee’s Retirement System and Federal Social Security System.
Life insurance: The District paid premium for basic plan coverage for employee and dependents. Optional coverage available at the employee’s expense (Voya).
Deferred compensation: A 457 Plan is available at the employee’s option and expense. (Nationwide).
