Carlex Glass America is Hiring a Payroll and Tax Specialist Near Lebanon, TN

Position Summary: The Payroll/Tax Specialist ensures that garnishments, taxes, and payroll for exempt and non-exempt associates, in multi-state tax scenarios, are processed in a timely and accurate manner. Additional responsibilities include accurate maintenance of the payroll systems used, ensuring accuracy and completeness of data; performing all functions involved in preparing, analyzing, reconciling, balancing and reporting payroll activity while assisting with issues relating to benefits and retirement plans. The Payroll/Tax Specialist will work with the Finance Department on any payroll general ledger issues and audits which includes accurate and timely monthly journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Audits payroll information for accuracy, reconciles errors, and maintains payroll records
  • Reconciles payroll deposits, tax withholdings, wage garnishments, and voluntary deductions
  • Advises Plant Payroll Liaison on court ordered deductions and payroll laws
  • Ensures that payroll-related transactions are processed in compliance with federal and state laws, and external and internal policies
  • Performs actions necessary to track and determine regular and overtime pay, and factors commission-based income or bonuses
  • Calculates and processes Federal and State tax and social security withholdings, union dues, etc.
  • Audits time-worked entries and adjustments for calculating, coding, or other errors
  • Receives and responds to payroll inquiries and resolves discrepancies as required
  • Collaborates with Finance on the payroll general ledger processing and audits
  • Generates accrual entries, as required
  • Balances and files weekly, bi-weekly, quarterly, and yearly payroll tax
  • Ensures complete and accurate year end processing
  • Acts as Tier 1 support to Carlex’s users for HR systems, as needed
  • Serves as primary liaison between Ultimate Software and Carlex HR/Payroll staff for payroll related issues
  • Develops and provides user system training, procedures, guidelines and documentation
  • Participates in special projects within the HR Department

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Finance or related field preferred
  • FPC or CPP preferred

Years of Experience:

  • 2 or more years of experience in managing and processing payroll within multiple states required
  • 2 or more years of experience in tax filing within multiple states required
  • 2 or more years of Court Ordered deduction experience required
  • 2 or more years Ultimate Payroll software experience preferred
  • 2 or more years timekeeping software UTA (Ultimate Time & Attendance) experience preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Able to manually calculate paychecks from gross to net
  • Proven experience in creating complex reporting
  • Expert knowledge of appropriate Federal, State and local tax applications
  • Working knowledge of implementing and maintaining compliance with FLSA, DOL, and IRS rulings
  • Valid driver’s license required for business travel
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Off-schedule hours may be required as workload or projects dictate, including weekends and holidays

  • Ability to lawfully implement any and all court ordered deductions received and ensure accurate reporting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills at a professional level
  • Understanding reimbursement differences
  • Working knowledge of discretionary vs. non-discretionary bonuses
  • Working knowledge of child support order administration
  • Advanced skill level with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Hands-on approach to problem solving and analysis
  • Highly goal-oriented and able to set priorities
  • Excellent Analytical Skills
