POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

Afognak Native Corporation has an exciting opportunity for an SBA Compliance Paralegal. The SBA Compliance Paralegal is responsible for providing a wide range of support to the Legal Department in connection Small Business Administration (SBA) compliance and other areas of legal compliance. The candidate must demonstrate excellent organizational skills, have experience drafting correspondence, have experience in a highly regulatory-driven environment that requires close attention to detail and accuracy, and possess excellent verifiable computer skills.

  • Support the CMP with running the SBA Compliance Program.
  • Assist with the maintenance and monitoring of corporate registrations in external government databases including the System for Award Management (SAM), Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS), and others.
  • Assist the CMP with preparation of SBA 8(a) Applications, Mentor-Protégé Applications, and Joint Venture Applications.
  • Assist the CMP with preparation of SBA 8(a) Annual Reviews, Mentor-Protégé Annual Evaluations, Joint Venture reporting, and other external reporting obligations.
  • Conduct annual corporate signage reviews and other SBA compliance-related reviews.
  • Assist with preparation and semi-annual filing of SBA Form 1790.
  • Track and file SBA offer letters, correspondence, and submissions.
  • Support the CMP with monthly size and HUBZone calculations.
  • Assist with aggregating regulatory and SBA/government contract-related news for various internal communications.
  • Assist Legal Department personnel with other areas of compliance to include the Ethics & Compliance Program, Corporate Governance, and other Legal Department matters.
  • Coordinate contract close-out tasks and deliverables.
  • Assist the Senior Paralegal with Corporate Governance including drafting resolutions and creating and maintaining hardcopy and electronic corporate books.
  • Prepare first drafts of routine correspondence (choose the right letterhead, understand tone of business correspondence, etc.) and assist with formatting, distribution, and tracking of same.
  • Assist the Legal department with processing outside counsel invoices in e-billing system, credit card reconciliations, check requests, and settlement payment tracking.
  • Obtain digital and wet signatures for various legal documents to include operating agreements, intercompany agreements, subleases, bonds, miscellaneous SBA forms; and affixing corporate seals.
  • Assist with the Legal Department’s record management including maintenance of legal filing system, management of current and archived legal files using an Excel database, management of electronic litigation files, management of office archives and storage, and assistance with other records management projects.
  • Track, register, and maintain professional memberships, subscriptions, and CLEs for members of the Legal Department.
  • Check outbox for filing, correspondence, faxes, mail, work assignments, documents to be distributed, etc.
  • Provide administrative support to attorneys and paralegals such as filing, printing, copying, shredding, scanning, faxing, distributing mail, and assisting with mail-outs as needed.
  • Make travel arrangements and prepare post-travel expense reports for Legal Department personnel.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining standard operating procedures for the Legal Department.
  • Order Legal Department supplies, reserve conference rooms, conduct occasional errands, and update legal library periodicals.
  • Complete special projects on an as–needed and as-assigned basis.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree or three (3) years of paralegal-type experience in a law firm or corporate legal department required.
  • Experience researching, reviewing, and applying legal regulations required.
  • Experience preparing deadline-driven reports and reviewing same for accuracy and completeness required.
  • Experience monitoring and tracking detailed information required.
  • Exceptional demonstrated organizational skills, work initiative, interpersonal skills, efficient utilization of time, and ability to work both independently and in a team environment required.
  • Excellent record-keeping and file management skills required.
  • Ability to write clearly and informatively; editing work for spelling and grammar; and ability to read, understand, and interpret written and verbal instructions required.
  • Knowledge of basic corporate governance principles, SBA rules and regulations, basic contract principles, and/or substantial paralegal experience in a highly regulated industry or practice area required.
  • Must be dependable and consistent with attendance, performing job-related tasks, finishing assigned projects, and meeting deadlines.
  • Must possess strong familiarity and enthusiasm for a variety of computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to create and maintain the highest levels of confidentiality when dealing with proprietary information and sensitive situations required.
  • Must have a valid Alaska driver’s license.
  • Alaska notary certification and experience notarizing documents preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes of documents weighing up to 25 pounds required.
