National Pork Board is Hiring a Vice President, Demand Development Near Des Moines, IA

The National Pork Board is seeking an experienced and talented Vice President, Demand Development. This role is responsible for developing strategies to turn marketing insights and industry knowledge into action on behalf of the Pork Checkoff. This leadership position will lead a team of experienced marketing professionals working collaboratively to engage key industry stakeholders (packer/processors, retailers, foodservice) within the pork supply chain to effectively build and execute comprehensive and uniquely valuable marketing program(s) for the US pork industry. Working in close partnership with the Vice President Data & Insights, the Vice President of Demand Development will lead the creation of business plans and marketing activities to be leveraged across business-to-business (B2B) activities as well as the consumer marketing strategy (B2C).

Essential job functions:

  • manage, and develop an internal team of subject matter experts with technical skills and capability to implement effective marketing plans/engagement with packers, retailers, and foodservice companies.
  • the consumer marketing strategy including the creation of large consumer marketing umbrella campaign.
  • and lead a consumer marketing advisory committee comprised of marketing professionals from packers and processors for all pork products, state-level marketing professionals, key producers, allied industry marketing professionals and marketing agencies.
  • input and guidance on marketing plans and execution to build industry alignment on universal messaging for Pork.
  • the development of business relationships within the pork supply chain to ensure NPB resources and programs are being leveraged to their fullest potential.
  • collaboratively with the VP of Data & Insights to lead, develop and manage pork innovation efforts with key industry stakeholders.
  • in cross-functional collaboration with all National Pork Board departments, including within Market Growth (data & insights, nutrition research & outreach, international market development), and across with Communications, Sustainability, Producer & State Engagement and Administration.
  • the National Pork Board and the broader pork industry by taking an active role in relevant professional organizations and associations through fact-based discussion beneficial to the pork industry.

Skills & Competencies:

  • understanding of all aspects of the pork product cycle including production, transportation, packing processing, channel sales (Wholesale, Retail and Foodservice) to consumers.
  • of the economics of the Pork industry including input cost, cutout value, production forecasts and the impact on demand, pricing, and profitability throughout the supply chain.
  • experience with key pork categories including fresh and processed (bacon, ham, sausage) items.
  • knowledge of Pork Nomenclature (IMPS and URMIS).
  • experience with product innovation in the meat industry.
  • of the defining characteristics of Pork Quality including food safety and eating experience.
  • strong and persuasive verbal and written communication skills.
  • understanding of research and sales data for competitive proteins and their relationship to pork.

Minimum requirements:

  • degree in business, marketing, insights, strategy or a related discipline.
  • least fifteen (15) years professional experience including category development and management, experience building B2B and B2C marketing plans and executing plans for measured results.
  • on experience with influencing change and promoting new ideas.
  • thorough understanding of the pork industry with knowledge of pork industry structure, from pork producer to consumer.
  • experience in building and managing a team.
  • experience leading and directing the work of external contractors and/or external consultants to achieve results.

Up to 50% travel is required in this role. Candidates should have a valid US Passport and Drivers License.

Full-time Salary Range: $180,000-$200,000

Please note: This starting range is based on a general market pay assessment. However, individual salary decisions take into account a variety of factors including but not limited to: business and local market considerations, internal equity, and overall candidate skills, education and experience.
