Job Description

The Communications Specialist plays a pivotal role in shaping the internal communication of Red Carrot’s federal government client by serving as the person responsible for crafting all initiative-related communication. This role requires a skilled communicator with a deep understanding of written, electronic, and stakeholder communications. The Communications Specialist will be responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships and ensuring that accurate and timely information is conveyed to all internal stakeholders. This is a remote position but the preference for an ideal candidate is to be in the DMV area (DC, Maryland, Virginia). 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Initiative Communications: 

  • Develop written communication that provides details around the program and expected participation. 
  • Craft documents, website comments, and all other communications with fit-for-audience language.
  • Monitor client website and email to capture and understand stakeholder concerns. 
  • Evaluate and analyze data, including developing succinct, accurate summaries and analyses of research that include strategic recommendations for clients. 
  • Develop strong relationships with Client(s) establishing regular communication to ensure expectations are met. 
  • Develop talking points for town hall sessions and other group settings. 
  • Develop website content for agency outreach. 
  • Ensure compliance with the Scope of Work. 
  • Develop client monthly reporting. 
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels. 
  • Assist in developing internal communication strategies to engage and inform the agency Staff. 
  • Track document versions and maintain version control.
  • Develop communication plans and detailed communication calendars for a multi-year and multi-project program.

Management and Growth: 

  • Work with PMO to develop consistency of communications and training. 
  • Proactively identify and pursue opportunities to improve outreach across the organization. 
  • Manage project timelines and monthly reporting. 
  • Identify potential project risks and develop contingency plans. 
  • Identify opportunities to improve programs/tactics and enhance offerings to clients. 
  • Provide strategic support and tactical recommendations as needed. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Must Haves: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field. 
  • 5 years of experience managing or coordinating communications across an organization. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to independently lead communications projects from needs identification to execution.
  • Ability to meet requirements to obtain a Public Trust Clearance or an existing Public Trust or Security Clearance. 
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate technical and transformation programs to various audiences.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities. 
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. 

Nice to Haves: 

  • Experience writing news-style reports for newsletters and websites.
  • Slogan and theme design branding experience.
  • Experience converting reports and data into succinct presentations.
  • Ability to develop marketing-type slicks to provide “wins” communication.
