    Vocal Music - Long Term Substitute, 20 hours per week, salaried
    The Arts Academy seeks an artist-instructor to teach from 1:00pm-4:15pm, Monday – Thursday, starting at the beginning of school, August 22. Under the direction of the Music Department Head and program administrator, the instructor will deliver curriculum and instruction in singing, vocal technique, how to analyze and present a song, music theory and an elective course for non- music majors to students grades 9-12. You would be joining an award-winning magnet school dedicated to social justice and delivering equitable education to students from throughout the Capitol Region.
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Teach Vocal Music, e.g. contemporary pop, jazz, vocal technique, mic technique, stage presence, etc. and teach Music Theory.

    Select appropriate learning materials including identifying and finding songs that are appropriate for group and individual students, prepare and write lesson plans and student performance evaluations.

    Create a safe environment for learning, follow program procedures, maintain records in a timely fashion, maintain supplies for students, monitor upkeep and report maintenance needs for the classroom.

    Devise curriculum that effectively promotes student engagement in a pre-professional arts learning environment. Provide instruction to students using methods and practices which best meet predetermined objectives in vocal music. Promote analytical thinking, teaching effective ways to collaborate and critique, while also providing opportunities for individual achievement to be exhibited.

    Apply appropriate diagnostic and assessment techniques which inform students and parents of the expectations for assessment. Periodically assess student accomplishment of objectives and review assessment results with students and parents.

    Interact with students, parents, school counselors and other personnel to communicate progress and accomplishments made by students based on educational goals set by curriculum and program expectations.

    Participate in selected before/ after school activities, including: student placement auditions, open houses, parent teacher conferences, curriculum night, performances and benefits.

    Education requirements:
    BS/BA degree in Education or a BFA with emphasis in music or equivalent required.
    Eligibility for a Connecticut State Department of Education Adjunct Arts Instructor Permit required, requirements for permit eligibility: (1) hold a bachelor’s degree from an institution of higher education accredited by the Board of Governors of Higher Education, or regionally accredited, (2) have a minimum of three years of work experience in the arts or one year of work and two years of specialized schooling related to the applicant’s artistic specialty, and (3) at least one hundred eighty hours of cumulative experience working with children in a private or public setting, including, but not limit to, afterschool programs, group lessons, children’s theater, studio lessons, and artist-in-residence programs, or at least two years’ experience as a full-time faculty member at an institution of higher education or been employed by an eligible inter-district magnet school prior to July 1,2011 and for at least one year.
