Capital Day School is Hiring a Lower Elementary Montessori Teacher Near Frankfort, KY

Position Overview: As a Montessori 1st - 3rd grade teacher, you will play a pivotal role in nurturing the intellectual, emotional, and social development of young learners ages 6 to 9 years old. You will create a stimulating, child-centered learning environment that fosters curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning. Utilizing the Montessori method and philosophy, you will guide students through a personalized curriculum that respects their individual interests, abilities, and learning styles. You will observe and assess students on a daily basis, along with setting academic goals for each child and give the appropriate lessons based on the Montessori scope and sequence to reach those goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, interdisciplinary curriculum based on Montessori principles and standards.
  • Design engaging learning activities and ability to differentiate materials based on the needs of individual students and the diversity of interests and levels.
  • Incorporate hands-on experiences, sensorial exploration, and real-life applications to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Classroom Management
  • Establish and maintain a well-organized, child-friendly classroom environment conducive to independent exploration and discovery.
  • Foster a culture of respect, collaboration, and self-discipline among students, promoting social-emotional growth and conflict resolution skills.
  • Provide clear and consistent expectations for behavior and academic performance, reinforcing positive behaviors and addressing challenges with empathy and understanding.
  • Individualized Instruction
  • Able to meet students where they are, and actively assess their needs, academically and emotionally.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate students' varying levels of readiness, interests, and learning paces.
  • Maintain records of children's lessons and be able to create progress reports each trimester.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly, ensuring each child reaches their full potential.
  • Offer one-on-one support and small group instruction as needed to facilitate mastery of academic concepts and skills.
  • Collaboration and Communication
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and administrators to support student learning and holistic development.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents, providing regular updates on student progress, milestones, and areas for growth.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school events, and professional development activities to strengthen partnerships and enhance teaching practices.
  • Professional Growth
  • Stay current with research, best practices, and innovations in Montessori education, seeking out opportunities for professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Reflect on teaching practices and student outcomes, identifying areas for growth and implementing action plans for self-improvement.
  • Contribute to the school community through active participation in committees, workshops, school functions, and other collaborative endeavors.

Requirements:

  • Ability to maintain a mutually respectful relationship with students, showing sensitivity and understanding to every child
  • Exhibiting a positive attitude while at school to set the tone of the classroom and ensure children are developing a healthy relationship with learning.
  • Awareness and willingness to work within a traditional school while remaining authentic to the Montessori philosophy.
  • Understand age level developmental milestones and sensitive periods of development.
  • Recognition of the need for consistent attendance for the sake of the students and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate and establish distinct roles between the lead teacher and assistant (assistant is responsible for the upkeep of the classroom and tends to classroom management based on expectations set by the lead teacher).

Salary range $30,000 - 35,000
