Under supervision of the Head of Middle School, the Middle School science teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing lessons which cover both the content and skills of the grade 6 Earth science curriculum. Qualified candidates will be able to create and provide an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of adolescents to ensure success for each student as well as monitor and evaluate academic outcomes. All Cape Henry Collegiate teachers are expected to communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community in a manner that represents the mission and core values of the school.

The Middle School science teacher will be able to...

• Plan and implement lessons that meet the learning objectives of the Earth science curriculum.

• Work closely with the STEAM director to design and incorporate performance tasks which allow students to demonstrate their application of scientific concepts in innovative ways.
• Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
• Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the Division Head.
• Collaborate with other members of the science department to support the curricular and strategic goals of the school.

• Enjoy working with young adolescents and design effective lessons to engage middle school students.
• Create an inclusive learning environment where students feel seen and heard.
• Serve as a grade level advisor and work with the grade level team to ensure consistency around advisory programming.
• Contribute positively to the collective growth and development of the middle school team.
• Maintain a safe, positive, and equitable classroom environment for all students
• Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required
• Perform other duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Candidates with a Master’s Degree and/or state teaching license will be given preferential treatment.
• Minimum of 3 years teaching experience within the content area preferred.
