Salary: Depends on Experience – Based on State Certificated Salary Scale

Union Membership Required

Qualifications:

  1. Valid degree from an accredited college or university
  2. Current Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsements in Special Ed and Secondary Grade Levels
  3. Meet IDEA definition of Highly Qualified designation for Special Education and for areas of core instruction
  4. Have or can obtain clearance from Washington State Patrol and FBI background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Training and experience in working with students with disabilities
  2. Experience in Lifeskill programming for students with developmental disabilities in addition to school-age children
  3. Possesses knowledge of child development and learning styles. Ability to assist in planning curriculum aligned with the CCSS

Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. Range of appropriate instructional strategies to meet the needs of students.
  2. Knowledge to plan for students with modifications, accommodations, and diversified instructional strategies.
  3. Knowledge of pertinent special education regulations and laws.
  4. Possesses knowledge of appropriate behavioral intervention techniques and supports.
  5. Demonstrate constructive and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and work effectively with students, parents and cohorts.

Essential Job Functions: (Complete Job Description available upon request.)

  1. Develop individual student learning plans and plan a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.

  2. Assess needs of students, using appropriate diagnostic measures

  3. Develop and maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to effective learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

  4. Use instructional programs that provide appropriate instruction to children with disabilities.
  5. Consult with teachers, staff and parents about needs and services for students with disabilities

  6. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  7. Maintain timely manner, accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District Policy, and administrative regulations. 

  8. Support students to participate as independently as possible in the least restrictive environment.
  9. Attend staff meetings, department meetings and serve on building committees as required.
  10. Work to establish open lines of communication with administration, fellow teachers, parents, and students.
  11. Maintain a positive attitude, good work ethic, and demonstrate promptness in work arrival and in accomplishing all tasks.
  12. Perform other necessary and reasonable duties as assigned.
