What you'll do

The Fannie Mae Specialist is responsible for working with borrowers who are facing default. They will perform Fannie Mae collections activities and management reporting and will stay current on Fannie Mae guidelines. They are responsible for providing superior service and support to internal and external members.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Contact members with delinquent Fannie Mae (FNMA) loans by phone, mail, and email; take appropriate action to bring current.
  • Send and track Borrower Assistance Packages.
  • Analyze financial situations of delinquent borrowers; offer and process workout options.
  • Complete monthly FNMA delinquency reporting and provide management with observations, trends and recommendations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Fannie Mae guidelines. Responsible for communicating Fannie Mae guideline changes to Member Solutions team.
  • Maintain accurate and complete files, collection notes and reports on all Fannie Mae loan collection activity.
  • Provide informed, professional, and accurate service and support to all internal and external members. Research and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Exhibit support for the organization’s goals, values, initiatives and cost control.
  • Adhere to Credit Union policies and all relevant regulations in connection with collection activity.
  • Assist in identifying potential risks, communicate them to management and take appropriate steps to avoid risk.
  • Comply with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other compliance requests and requirements.
  • Recommend and help develop and implement new policies and procedures.
  • Follow all safety and security guidelines to properly safeguard member and organization assets.
  • Embrace ongoing education and learn/apply new skills and software applications.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate filing system.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

  • Solid knowledge of Fannie Mae guidelines, and mortgage lending and collections.
  • Solid understanding of the credit score analysis process.
  • Ability to compile data and analyze financial information.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to explain loan terms, features, policies and procedures to members and business partners.
  • Strong relationship building and customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Ability to maintain confidences.

Education or Formal Training: Two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school.

Experience: Two to five years of experience in collections, mortgage lending and compliance desired.

This position has a starting pay range of $21.10-$26.37/hour, and final pay rate will be determined based on experience and internal equity factors.

Working Environment/Physical Activities

High volume, fast-paced, dynamic office environment with some travel. Must be able to attend meetings and events outside of regular business hours. The job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, fax machines and filing cabinets. The position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets. The position requires bending, stooping, or standing as necessary.
