Candor Health Education is Hiring a Remote Accountant (Part-time)

The Candor Health Education staff is a team of adaptable individuals who are committed to our mission, genuine in nature, collaborative with colleagues, and knowledgeable about their individual roles.

The Accountant manages the accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and maintaining the general ledger entries for monthly and year-end review. This staff member collaborates with many different departments within the organization and interacts with all employees.

This is a part-time position of 15-20 hours per week. Hours and days may vary based on the needs of the organization. This position is hybrid but requires access to the office twice per week.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Executive Director (ED).

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of payable functions, managing cash flow and reconciling with General Ledger
  • Manage all accounts receivable functions, including invoicing, and follow-up through final payment receipt
  • Prepare month-end close, journal entries, and monthly bank reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly & quarterly financial reports and provide meaningful analysis of financial results
  • Enter financial results on dashboards to summarize results for the Board of Directors, etc.
  • Assist management with annual budget development and ongoing analysis of variances
  • Assist with the creation of project budgets with colleagues, including grant proposals
  • Ensure that grant funds are appropriately tracked and reported
  • Prepare and process semi-monthly payroll
  • Initiate background/drug testing for new employees and enter said employees into the payroll system
  • Assist in an integral way with the preparation and completion of the annual audit
  • Administer health and retirement benefit programs, including 403b contributions
  • Work with insurance broker on the yearly business insurance renewal/audit
  • Work with ED to assess best practices and maintain documented accounting procedures
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing other duties as assigned
  • Occasional non-traditional work hours may be required
  • Collaborate with different organizational departments on various projects (Fundraising, Grants, etc.)
  • Prepare and make bank deposits as needed
  • Attend and participate in Grants Meetings, Staff Meetings and other meetings as designated by the ED.

The ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

  • Previous experience with QuickBooks and ADP payroll or similar software packages
  • Previous non-profit experience
  • Experience with government grants / contracts a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with staff, board members, clients, and vendors
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage complex projects and complete work on tight deadlines


Educational & Professional Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with CPA and two to five years of experience
