Cancer Care Specialists is Hiring a Pharmacy Technician Near Reno, NV

Job Overview:

The Chemotherapy/Dispensing Tech practices at a high level of autonomy and accountability in collaboration with oncologists and the inter-professional Healthcare team to provide a continuum of patient care. This position is tasked with the preparation of chemotherapy and dispensing of medications from our integrated physician dispensing pharmacy.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepares compounds using aseptic technique and dispenses medications, chemotherapy, and intravenous medications upon physician orders; prepares and dispenses oral chemotherapy medication; dispenses all medications following Nevada Board of Pharmacy guidelines.
  • Oversees pharmaceutical inventory stocking, restocking, and management using the Nucleus system (dispensing system).
  • Maintains clean and safe operation of biological safety cabinets.
  • Assists physicians, nurses, and staff as needed.
  • Attend training classes, programs, and departmental meetings.
  • Responsible for ordering all clinical supplies for the pharmacy, infusion area, and clinic; reconciles invoices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Ability to obtain Chemotherapy (company paid) certificate within 6 months of employment.

Experience: Two years of relevant experience in pharmacy operations.

Skills:

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including, letters, memos, and emails.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to research and analyze data.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, management, staff, and contacts outside the organization.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access) and internet resources.
  • Proficient use after the training period in OncoEMR and Advanced MD.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital pharmacy operations
  • Basic math skills
  • Organization skills
  • Ability to operate a computer
  • Ability to prepare compounds
  • IV admixture experience.
  • Aseptic technique experience
  • Ability to maintain records and files
  • Ability to work with precision
  • Ability to stand and walk for a long period of time

Physical Requirements:

Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.

Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the

Telephone and pickup window.

Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

Other: Requires occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 pounds

unassisted. Requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements,

standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, with some lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
