Camp Fire North Shore is Hiring a Summer Camp - Program Specialist, Drama Near Salem, MA

Camp Fire North Shore is a traditional summer day camp that serves school-age children on the North Shore. Campers spend the summer exploring and participating in fun outdoor activities, all under the guidance of qualified specialists and counselors. Daily activities include skits & songs, swimming, hiking, sports & games, music, gardening, STEM activities, arts and crafts and much more!

The Drama Specialist will be responsible for creating and implementing weekly skits and songs programming for camper groups based on the camp-wide theme of the week. Groups of 10-20 campers rotate through the outdoor “theater in the rough” stage area daily, every 50 minutes. Each week culminates with a performance of skits and/or songs on Camp Fire's outdoor stage every Friday at 3:00PM. Campers range in age from 5-12 years. This role is a great opportunity for someone who wants to share their love of theater arts with children while creating a joyful, memorable summer working with children in a day camp setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure and monitor the safety of children during all drama activities.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the stage and all materials being used.
  • Plan out weekly songs and skits based on the camp theme of the week
  • Collaborate with staff and campers to create props and backdrops for every Friday performance
  • Ability and willingness to have fun on stage and encourage campers to do the same
  • Teach children the skills they need through preparation and rehearsal to have confidence and feel comfortable in their group’s performance
  • Engage and support children throughout the weekly preparation
  • Discusses and demonstrates vocal and body expression to teach a variety of acting styles and character development while having fun on stage

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • A degree in performance arts and or childhood education is desirable, but not required.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Minimum 2 years (or 2 summers) experience working with children
  • Passion for all things drama and teaching children

General Pay and Contract Provisions:

  • Orientation (June 3rd or June 10th) and training (June 8th & June 15th) - are mandatory.
  • Summer Camp runs for 9 weeks during the summer: June 24th, 2024 - August 23rd, 2024
  • Daily hours will be from 8:30am to 4:30pm
  • Compensation based on experience
