Camp Fire North Shore is Hiring a Summer Camp - Camp Counselor Near Salem, MA

Camp Fire North Shore is a traditional summer camp that serves school- age children in the North Shore. Campers spend the summer exploring and participating in fun outdoor activities, all under the guidance of qualified Specialists and Counselors. Counselors are primarily responsible for the management of a group of up to 10 children. Throughout the day counselors are bringing the children from specialty areas around the camp and assisting with their individual needs (tying shoes, bathroom trips, etc.). Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of each child in your group.
  • Responsible for taking daily attendance during sign in and parent dismissal.
  • Responsible for a weekly ice breaker or “get to know you” activity for new campers. Keep games simple, and easy for each camper to participate in.
  • Know all the campers by name in your group by lunch on Monday. Try to learn something about each camper such as: favorite color, favorite animal, etc. This can be part of your “getting to know you” game.
  • Remain with your group at all times, including instructional and free swim.
  • Assist each specialist with activity and clean-up, and always be looking for campers who are not participating and try to engage them.
  • Be a positive role model for other counselors and campers. If you are asking kids to drink water and stay hydrated, model that behavior! Think of ways to make things fun (such as yelling “cheers everyone” and clinking water bottles together to get kids to drink their water)
  • Attend to the needs of the children in your group. Be aware of and attentive to campers who forgot their lunch, campers who have lost items such as towels or water bottles, campers who look ill, campers who do not seem to be making friends, or are being bullied or nagged by others. Your attention to these details can mean a world of difference to a child, and can “make or break” their camp experience.
  • Other duties as assigned in regards to daily shift.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 16 years old.
  • Must have reliable transportation to work.
  • If under 18, must have a valid work permit.
  • Experience working with children a plus

General Pay and Contract Provisions:

  • Orientation (June 3rd or June 10th) and training (June 8th & June 15th) - are mandatory.
  • Summer Camp runs for 9 weeks during the summer: June 24th, 2024 - August 23rd, 2024
  • Daily hours will be from 8:30am to 4:30pm
  • $16.00 - $18.00 hr based on experience
