GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Adult MH Clinic Director, the van driver/custodian will be responsible for safely transporting consumers to their destinations in a timely manner. Operates vans or automobiles for transporting consumers, personnel, supplies, mail, and other cargo. Performs routine upkeep and maintenance of company vehicles to ensure safe and reliable transportation for staff and clients. The position will serve as the designated safety officer for the MH center and will complete monthly vehicle and safety reports that are sent to the administrative office. The ideal candidate for this position should have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, experience in vehicle maintenance, and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients. The position will be required to perform cleaning/janitorial duties in the building, i.e., cleaning floors, emptying trash receptacles, cleaning restrooms, maintaining break room/kitchen area, and maintaining a neat and orderly janitor’s room stocked with cleaning and maintenance supplies. Work is performed according to prescribed rules, regulations, and schedules. Compliance with written and verbal instructions while adhering to prescribed safety procedures is an integral part of the position. While the typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8-5, the position requires you to work a flexible schedule when needed and based on agency need.

The van driver/custodian position is a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the MH Center, and the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the organization’s mission.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:

• Eighth (8th) grade education and the ability to pass a comprehension test and provide three non-family letters of reference.
• Possess a valid Texas Driver’s license and have a safe driving record.
• Basic maintenance skills and knowledge of tools and equipment used in building maintenance.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work well with others.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrate ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish.
• Experience in the mental health field as well as experience in the community setting.
• Resides in Wilson County.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of motor vehicle operation, and of traffic rules and regulations.
• Skills in operating motor vehicles.
• Ability to follow practices in loading and unloading cargo and/or passengers with disabilities.
• General knowledge of safety practices.
• Ability to follow schedules for pickups.
• Ability to work under conditions requiring physical stamina and ability to work in a stressful environment.
