JOB TITLE: Chaplain

JOB STATUS: PRN

SHIFT: As Needed

JOB SUMMARY

Working in conjunction with the Supervisor to Customer Services, the Chaplain is responsible for assessing and addressing the spiritual needs of patients, families, visitors, and staff. This position is also responsible for interacting with patients, families, visitors, and staff at crucial moments, administering in many discreet fashions. The Chaplain supports the mission of the hospital by providing compassionate and innovative spiritual care through our core values of inclusion, excellence, integrity, teamwork, stewardship, compassion, and respect.

Essential Functions

• Provides spiritual care and assessment to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
• Function as a calming presence, working compassionately and efficiently with others.
• Create an open and inviting atmosphere, reflecting diverse life experiences, free of judgement.
• Create meaningful relationships while respecting the unique experience of others.
• Counsel distressed and bereaved individuals while providing helpful strategies for healing and understanding.
• Assist patients, families, and visitors with questions about Advance Directives.

Qualifications

Experience

• Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Experience in pastoral care including spiritual counseling and bereavement/grief support preferred.

Skills/Competencies

• Demonstrates a strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly read, write, and speak using appropriate grammar, style, and vocabulary.

Requirements

Education Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in pastoral care, ministry, or theology. Or, minimum of a Bachelors degree in an unrelated field with significant pastoral care, ministry, or theology experience is necessary.
