Cambridge Rindge & Latin School Community:

The Cambridge Rindge & Latin School is a comprehensive high school divided into four Learning Communities designed to promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students. Honors courses are offered in all core classes (English, History, Mathematics, and Science); Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available to qualified students in grades 11 and 12.

The Opportunity:

The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School seeks an extended term substitute Spanish Teacher to join its caring and innovative community. Under the supervision of the school principal and the Coordinator of World Languages, the Spanish Teacher will be responsible for instruction in grades 9-12 using a proficiency approach based on ACTFL standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in fostering a positive and supportive classroom environment, where students are encouraged to develop intellectual curiosity, a love for the target language, and an appreciation of its culture. A background in technology is also desirable so that students can engage in research projects. S/he will set high expectations for all students and utilize scaffolding and differentiation to support students. The teacher will have an appreciation and awareness for the unique developmental needs of young people in this age band. As a professional, the teacher will display a collegial spirit that supports and enhances continual professional growth consistent with the educational goals and philosophies of our school community. Moreover, s/he will be fully committed to continuously learning, improving, reflecting and working together to ensure that all students achieve at high levels.

Key Responsibilities:

In the World Language Program, there will be a focus on all skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. There will also be a cultural component where students will research and report on nuances of similarities/differences between the target language and the American culture. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with all team members, including but not limited to, special educators, instructional coaches, paraprofessionals, interventionists, and other support personnel.
  • Assess students regularly and refine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment data and student needs.
  • Integrate social learning into the classroom and work to foster a safe, caring, and active learning community.
  • Partner with families and include them in the students’ learning and development as well as encourage families to further the mission of the school.
  • Build on established partnerships with surrounding community institutions and organizations.
  • Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student will pursue a dignified next step.
  • Work closely with the Principal and the district coordinator to ensure that all required units are taught.
  • Communicate regularly with students and families and involve families as partners in their child’s education.
  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practices throughout the school.

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Spanish Teacher you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Knowledge of effective use of relevant technology.
  • Knowledge of best practices for effective second language acquisition.
  • Ability to work with both middle and high school teachers around issues of articulation.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction techniques and development design.
  • Experience designing and implementing projects and performance assessments.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Experience leading instruction in an urban school setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in fostering a positive and supportive classroom environment, where students are encouraged to develop intellectual curiosity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff and student body.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Spanish.
  • Successful completion of a practicum in Spanish preferred.
  • Massachusetts State certification and licensure in Spanish preferred
  • A strong work ethic, alongside a commitment to doing whatever it takes for students to excel.
