The Opportunity:

The Kennedy-Longfellow School seeks an Extended Term Substitute (ETS) Second Grade Teacher to join our caring and innovative community for the 2022/2023 school year. This position is responsible for creating a positive classroom rooted in inclusive and culturally responsive learning opportunities for all students, establishing supportive relationships with students and families, motivating students to develop positive attitudes and beliefs about school, build strong academic and social/emotional skills, and collaborate with grade level colleagues, coaches, special educators, ELL teachers and school administrators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaches the core content areas using culturally responsive pedagogy in an inclusive setting.
  • Plans for and creates instructional materials that provides individualized and small group instruction in that meets the needs of each student.
  • Establishes a safe and supportive classroom community rooted in our PBIS values and culturally responsive practices.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates frequently with parents to discuss students’ progress and develop collaborative partnerships that support the whole child.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students grow and achieve at high levels.
  • Maintains professional competence through regular sessions with the ELA and Math coaches as well as in-service and district Professional Development opportunities.
  • Administers all school, district, and state assessments in accordance with specified guidelines and timetables.
  • Utilizes formal and informal assessment data to plan targeted instruction that effectively meets the needs of all students.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Develop units and lessons that effectively integrate technology into classroom instruction.

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming ETS Second Grade Teacher, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • At least two years of teaching experience in a diverse setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff
  • Knowledge about and experience with culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Effective strategies for building relationships with students that optimize learning
  • Strong skills in establishing a positive classroom environment
  • Strong knowledge of Common Core/ MA Curriculum Framework for ELA and Literacy
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Education strongly preferred 
  • Preferred Massachusetts Teacher Certification: Elementary 1-6
