Description of Service Opportunity:
The CPS Summer Scholars program is a four week summer learning experience for current grade 5-7 students with demonstrated academic need.
The program will operate from 8:30-12:00 at The Putnam Avenue School from July 8 to August 2. The day is organized into a block schedule and studies will have Math, ELA and enrichment periods each day. The student teacher ratio will be 1:12.
The CPS Summer Scholars teacher, under the direction of the CPS Summer Scholars Principal, Director of MTSS, and Program Manager, will be responsible for:
Providing a fun, safe, theme-based summer learning experience that promotes high expectations for all students;
Facilitating literacy or math instruction, according to their assigned content area, using district provided curriculum (Fishtank, Math Camp) and intervention materials;
Monitoring student progress toward academic goals; and
Supporting students during local field trips and special events.

15 hours of orientation, program planning, and curriculum training

July 1-3, 2024 (summer set up and professional learning days)
July 8-August 2, 2024 (CPS Summer Scholars program)

7:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. (teacher work day, July-August)
8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (student day, July-August)
Location(s): Putnam Avenue Upper School.
Minimum Requirements:
CPS Summer Scholars teachers must have the ability to teach students with a range of learning needs in multi-age classrooms. MA DESE licensure in English 5-8 , Mathematics 5-8, and/or Moderate Disabilities preK-8 preferred. Priority will be given to regularly appointed teachers from Cambridge Public School District.
Length of Contract: May 1-August 2, 2024

May-June, 2024: $50 per hour ($750, not to exceed 15 hours)
July-August, 2024: $50 per hour ($5,500, not to exceed 110 hours)
