CAMBA serves more than 65,000 individuals and families each year, citywide, including almost 13,000 youth. From homelessness prevention in Staten Island to supportive housing in the Bronx; from employment training in Manhattan to after school programs and college access in Brooklyn; from family shelter and support in Queens to increasing affordable housing across the city, CAMBA provides holistic services to help struggling New Yorkers stabilize their lives and become self-sufficient.

CAMBA’s comprehensive Workforce Development and Refugee Services programs annually provide over 3,800 low income community members with employment, education, training, benefits access, and financial counseling services. CAMBA specializes in assisting those with special barriers to employment including low skilled workers, long-term unemployed, immigrants and refugees, highly skilled immigrant professionals, limited English speakers, formerly incarcerated, individuals in imminent danger of homelessness and trauma survivors. These programs are performance-based, and success is measured by meeting enrollment, employment placement, training, retention and case management goals. The Refugee Services Programs provide resettlement and cultural adjustment support, job training, placement and transitional support services to refugees and asylees during their 60 months of eligibility in the United States to help with any impediments to employment and self-sufficiency.

Position: Career Readiness Instructor

Reports To: Program Manager

Location: Cypress Hill Cornerstone (475 Fountain Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11208)

What The (Insert Position Title Here) Does:

  • Research and develop instructional materials and lesson plans to strengthen clients’ job seeking skills.
  • Provide one-on-one tutoring and classroom instruction to clients to increase their chances of employment
  • Provide client support in writing resumes and cover letters, teaching and coaching for adaptive soft skills acquisition, conducting mock interviews, and assisting with job applications.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of career advisors and job developers with the common goal of successfully advancing participants to employment.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of applicable and/or equivalent experience

Other Requirements:

  • Teaching style must be hands-on, interactive, and participatory (not lecture based).
  • Willingness to adapt instruction to meet the varied needs of individuals or groups, including the use of Zoom, YouTube, and other online learning resources.
  • Ability to multi-task and to work a flexible or alternative workweek schedule based upon program needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with young adults, immigrant, refugee and asylee populations.
  • Bilingual Spanish/Haitian-Creole or French a plus.

Compensation: $55,000 annually
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
