JOB TITLE: Ministry Background Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Volunteer Ministry
REPORTS TO: Manager of the Volunteer Ministry
STATUS: Non-Exempt, Hourly
HOURS: Full-time (40)

Your passion:
As the Ministry Background Specialist, you must have proven organizational and strategic skills and will be responsible for defining and implementing measurement strategies to support Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale's criminal history policy. This position will coordinate and maintain all criminal history requirements as it pertains to volunteers to stay in compliance with church volunteer standards.

You will:
  • Ensure all related documentation is organized, compiled and processed in a systemic, consistent and usable manner
    • Maintain a database/spreadsheet ensuring that all volunteer records are current and accurate in a timely manner
    • Schedule appointments and fingerprint volunteers at FTL campus
    • Process Federal, FBI, FDLE and local background results
    • Be responsible for filing paper and digital files in a data retrieval system
    • Enter digital copies of results into Ministry Platform
    • Handle confidential information wisely and discretely
    • Ensure minimal reprints due to poor quality – (stewardship and timeliness)
    • Have a passionate heart to understand, assist, serve and support the ministries of Calvary Chapel with a desire to protect the Body from potential risks
    • Take the initiative to seek out and implement best practice solutions for background screening processes
  • Download, process, then communicate results to their supervisor through an approval process.
    • Notify supervisors and ministry overseers of individuals who need to have prints reprocessed through FBI according to the established schedule (typically over 5 years)
    • Notify ministry overseers and individuals who need to schedule reprints
    • Completing due diligence in researching related data on individuals
  • Coordinate new volunteer integration process as well as related documentation
  • Check for sexual predator history on all relevant volunteers
  • Respond to correspondence, answering and returning telephone calls and e-mails regarding all background and fingerprinting questions and follow-up in a timely manner
  • Schedule the fingerprinting machine for ministries and all campuses
    • Maintaining functionality of the fingerprint machines, computers and related resources
    • Proactively working to support and serve multiple ministries on all campus locations
  • Assist Manager of Volunteer Ministry and participate with other departmental duties and activities as needed

  • A strong work ethic to set an example for our staff, volunteers, the Body and other ministries

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, presenting numerical data effectively and correctly as well as interpret written information
  • The ability to clearly communicate and respond timely and appropriately with pastors, management, staff members, volunteers, and other ministries with strong interpersonal skills and rightly represent Christ as well as the heart of Calvary Chapel
  • High stress tolerance for multi-tasking in a rapid moving environment
  • A flexible and openhanded approach to others' ideas and exhibits willingness to try new things. (Col 4:6)
  • Strong active listening skills (James 1:19)
  • Advanced computer, email, and administrative skills IE, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Knowledge of Google platforms, Microsoft Office experience as well.
  • Detailed problem solving - able to identify, gather, and analyze information, and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • High mental energy levels for extended periods of time - Physical ability to work up to 8 hour shifts sitting at a desk
  • Quality Control - the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors their own work to ensure quality as if they were doing it as unto the Lord
What you are required to know:
  • We are an EEO employer.

  • This is a full-time (40 hours/week) hourly non-exempt position.
  • You may have to work evenings and/or weekends to assist with special events or emergencies.

Work Schedule:
