The State Water Resources Control Board’s Central Valley Region has one opening for an Environmental Scientist position in the Planning Section working in the TMDLs and Delta Programs. The position is located at 11020 Sun Center Dr., Suite #200, Rancho Cordova, CA, 95670.

Duties:

The Clean Water Act requires States to develop a list of surface water bodies that do not meet water quality standards and to establish pollutant load reduction targets (total maximum daily loads, or TMDLs) or equivalent alternative control programs necessary to attain water quality standards. The goal of the TMDL program is to protect and restore surface waters through water quality assessments that identify impairments and development of TMDLs, control programs, and implementation plans that address those impairments.

Under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisory (Sr ES Sup), the Environmental Scientist performs a variety of responsible professional scientific office work. Incumbents independently perform assigned public health, environmental, agricultural productivity, and natural resource management analysis, research, surveys, investigations, and studies; write final reports; prepare regulatory and compliance documents; enforce environmental law and regulations; prepare non-routine correspondence and answer non-routine questions from the public; and do other related work.

Candidates must possess essential personal qualifications including integrity, initiative, dependability, good judgment, the ability to work cooperatively with others, and the ability to perform the assigned duties of the class.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
